Everything in life comes with accessories. Some are a bit more useful than others. Even for the accessories that just look cool rather than serve a purpose, they’re still fun to have. There’s always this weird debate I have in my head when new controllers come out. “Do I really need another one?” “Is a simple color change really that cool?” The answer to the first question might not always be yes, and the second question can be a matter of opinion. That said, new colors and prints on controllers are fun to pick up because they’re accessories to our favorite hobby. The new PS5 DualSense controller options might just be two new colors, but they look incredible and will likely be a huge hit. Let’s take a look.

While third-party companies make controllers all the time, nothing beats a console-maker adding new accessories to the lineup. That’s especially true with the DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5. Improving on one of the best gaming controllers of all time, the DualSense is a marvel of this console generation’s technological enhancements. Two new color options for this already groundbreaking controller might just be aesthetically different, but damn, they look really good.

In new red and black finishes, the new PS5 DualSense controller options add a nice array of styles to your potential PlayStation 5 arsenal. The black controller is akin to past DualShock controllers. The red, however, is a really deep shade that really pops with the white PS5 consoles. Let’s say you’re just a solo gamer tempted by the new controller finishes. Here’s my mindset: we buy accessories for everything. Our wardrobe, where we live, and even our pets and desks. At the end of the day, you might not need another controller, but that’s a boring way of looking at things. If you have the cash and it’s cool to you, then I’m a huge supporter of buying additional controllers. Put the white DualSense aside for a bit and come back to it when you miss the classic finish that matches your console.

If you’re debating the purchase of a new PS5 controller, then this might be a great time to hold out a little longer. You can pre-order the Cosmic Red and Midnight Black PS5 controllers on PS Direct now. Black will run you $69.99, the same price as the white controller. Cosmic Red will run you just $5 more at $74.99. The controllers will release on June 11 in the United States.
