The upcoming LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga game is one of 2021’s most ambitious titles. Covering everything between Episodes 1 – 9, the game will allow players to explore the entirety of this era of Star Wars. If you’re excited about the game, then you’re certainly not alone. The game is getting some buzz as we hopefully move closer to a release date announcement. A new LEGO Star Wars leak from a UK PlayStation magazine shows off a few things to expect from the game. If you were excited before, then this will likely only add to the anticipation. Here’s what we learned.

In a Reddit post featuring leaks from PlayStation: Official Magazine UK, we see a bit more about what to expect from the upcoming LEGO Star Wars game. Firstly, this is a completely new experience. If you played the old LEGO Star Wars games, then you might contemplate skipping this game. Don’t; the new game features a brand new engine and the game is built from the ground-up. Likewise, you can play through the movies in any order you would like. If you want to start with the first film, then go for it. Or, play in reverse order. Likewise, the developers claim every one of your favorite movie moments is included in the game.

That’s a whole lot of detail to include in one game. Under the new LucasFilm Games monicker, developer TT Games is going big for this one. After a delay last year, the developers feel like the extra time helped them to polish the gameplay. That’s a lot of polishing considering there are 800 characters in the game. 300 of those characters are playable, meaning you can put a twist on a lot of moments in a funny, unique way.

A Big Change for Finn (But a Welcome One)

One of the most surprising choices revealed in the interview is the treatment of Finn. If you remember The Force Awakens, then you’ll recall Finn is set up to be a huge part of the sequel trilogy. Overall, he never really becomes a huge part of the films. Instead, he goes around trying to find Rey and sort of playing sidekick. TT Games claims that they’re using LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga to “put things right” with Finn’s role in the new films. They clearly have the green light from LucasFilm, so it’ll be interesting to see what they choose to do.

23 planets are explorable in the game, including 28 unique locations. Each location features quests, collectibles, and other activities. I could see playing through this game taking nearly 100 hours at least to grab everything available in the game. It’s impressive that so much is going into a single game. This fits well into celebrating 25 years of LEGO video games, which the LEGO Company began doing in December. It’s exciting to think about what could be next for the LEGO gaming universe, but for now, we’re patiently awaiting the release of The Skywalker Saga.
