The 2021 DICE Awards cover games released in 2020 and take place in late April. Sure, why not? Awards season is never-ending these days, but it does have some perks. Firstly, games that really captured our imaginations and free time get some love. If you’re Hades or Ghosts of Tsushima, you’re not really running short on love lately, but it never hurts to get some more. Across the fairly unsurprising spread of the 2021 DICE Awards winner list, games already riding high received more accolades to cap off a bizarre year for the gaming industry and the world. Here are the winners from last night’s show.
Hades and Ghosts of Tsushima Lead the Way in the 2021 DICE Awards Winner List

The 2021 DICE Awards, organized by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, brought big wins to already big winners. Leading the pack with five wins, including Game of the Year, was Hades. Indie studio darling Super Giant is well-deserving of all the love Hades received across this year’s award shows. The next best-faring game as Ghosts of Tsushima, which racked up an impressive four wins. The Sucker Punch game won alongside many Sony exclusive peers. The Last of Us Part II, which won the top spot among the Game Awards 2020 winners, took home animation and story awards.
Other Sony titles won fairly big categories as well. Final Fantasy Part VII won RPG of the Year and Dreams won for Outstanding Technical Achievement. Who took home the best racing game? Funnily enough, the RC-kart turned video game Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit beat out Dirt 5 and the latest F1 game. Nintendo also took home Best Family Game for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Microsoft failed to grab anything major. It did, however, win Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year thanks to Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Just a few weeks after the SXSW 2021 Game Award Winners List was revealed, the DICE Awards leave us wondering “how many award shows are too many?” I think when you consider how many award shows other media like TV and movies have, it’s not so crazy. If anything, then I think it’s nice we have some legitimate awards systems in place to celebrate game developers and their works.
