DC Comics has published far more comics than those with superheroes in tights. The Sandman, Neil Gaiman’s dark fantasy series, has amassed acclaim since its creation in 1989. Like many great comics, studios discussed turning it into the next hit DC film. But developing projects can be tricky, and this one got lost a few times. Finally, it’s turning into a Netflix series. The first look of The Sandman was released during the streamer’s global fan event, TUDUM. Let’s take a look!
Watch The First Look For The Sandman
This first look teaser premiered during Netflix’s TUDUM event. With such a short amount of time, the preview tells us everything we need to know to get excited: This series will look pretty darn cool. It follows the summoned character of Dream (also known as Morpheus), an Endless. These powerful beings are embodiments of tremendous and natural forces, and Dream is one of seven.
Based on some series details shared last year at DC Fandome, The Sandman will see a few notable differences from the comic books. This includes featuring the tale during a more contemporary period and prolonging the time that Dream has been asleep before being summoned.
The series will feature Tom Sturridge as Dream. Other cast members include Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer, Vivienne Achaeampong as Lucienne, and David Thewlis as John Dee. Neil Gaiman has developed, and executive produced the series, too, so we’re hopeful that it will match the magic of the original works. He is joined by Allan Heinberg and David S. Goyer on the executive production team.
We’re Ready For Some Dreams
The Sandman project has taken a little bit longer to come to the small screen than anticipated, thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Despite some setbacks, filming of the series wrapped earlier this summer. We still don’t know the release date, but we’re sure that post-production will move quickly on this highly anticipated project.
