“Wait, did I miss season 2?” You may be asking yourself this very question. I know that I certainly did. While time may seem to be simultaneously stuck in place and moving far too quickly, 2021 has not caused you to miss the second season of Snowpiercer. The series, which debuted on TNT in May of 2020, will begin its sophomore season later this month. Though, in advance of the premiere, Snowpiercer has officially been renewed for season 3! Warning, we have some slight season one spoilers up ahead.

Snowpiercer, based on the 2013 film of the same name and Le Transperceneighe, the 1982 French graphic novel, caught the attention of audiences worldwide last Spring. This franchise’s worldbuilding may be limited, but they have managed to give us enough time to tell plenty of stories. Taking place on a train in a post-apocalyptic world, Snowpiercer deals with questions of class, survival, and injustices in communities.

Viewers praised the first season for utilizing the intense story of The Snowpiercer timeline that we already know and love, while still finding enough unique content to make the series worthwhile.

We last left our train riding crew as they learn how to navigate a merged class system amongst the train. Layton (Daveed Diggs) is now the train’s leader, while others contemplate the great outside. Season two will premiere on January 25th, 2021.

The announcement of a season 3 for Snowpiercer is proof that there is still power in the cable TV drama. With the recent successes of shows like The Mandalorian or WandaVision, it’s easy to forget that streaming services don’t have a total monopoly over tv watching (at least, not yet!) So, we’re happy to hear that this story continues to thrive.

We know that there’s still another season to get through, but we want to hear your early predictions for season 3 of Snowpiercer! Drop them in the comments!
