COVID-19 impacted the film business in ways much more significant than we could have ever expected. Not only did release dates get pushed back, but entire production crews had to wrap it up and halt filming due to safety concerns. One film that had to stop shooting before filming for even a quarter of their planned time was the latest Jurassic World sequel. Now that the world is gradually getting safer, Jurassic World: Dominion will restart filming next month.
Jurassic World: Dominion To Restart Filming
The last time we saw the Jurassic World dinosaurs on screen was during the short film Battle at Big Rock when dinosaurs were escaping from their enclosed habitats and risking the lives of citizens everywhere. Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) is back to direct the newest addition to the franchise. While direct plot details are currently unknown, Trevorrow’s vision for the film is to have audiences question the real harms that can occur if and when technology “falls into the wrong hands.” Leads Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will also return.
Filming had originally begun in February of 2020. The crew made it 4 weeks into their planned 20-week shooting schedule before coronavirus closures forced them to stop. They will resume filming on July 6th at Pinewood Studios.

Safety Measures Will Be In Place
While many countries are easing up lockdown restrictions, the threat is still very real. If proper precautions are not taken, we may see a second wave of the coronavirus in no time. In order to ensure that the appropriate safety measures are in place, Universal is implementing protocols that will cost $5 million. This includes testing during filming, commissioning a private medical facility, special COVID-19 training, on-site health care workers, and more. Masks will also be worn by any cast or crew that is not on camera.
Now that Jurassic World: Dominion is set to resume filming, we’re eager to see what other film sets follow suit. The current release date for the film is June 11th, 2021. If all goes well, we can expect to see our favorite dinosaurs back on screen in no time.
