Reports earlier this week pegged Jeffrey Wright as Gordon for the upcoming Batman film. Now, Matt Reeves, direct of the soon-to-be Caped Crusader movie, confirms the actor for the role. Wright is an Emmy and Golden Globe winning actor, and an absolute delight to watch in any role. From HBO hits like Westworld and Boardwalk Empire to major film roles in epics like Casino Royale and The Goldfinch, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon feels meant to be.

Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon – First Impressions
Reeves confirming Jeffrey Wright as Gordon finally puts the rumors to bed. Commissioner Gordon in film adaptations of Batman needs a few things, in my eyes. He needs to seem torn a bit by such a heavy reliance on Batman. He also needs to give off an aura of a military general, overseeing large moving pieces in greater battles against the evil of Gotham. From his previous acting roles, Wright fits this type of character perfectly. The actor’s work in Westworld especially shows depth, deep emotional expression that can play out in a matter of seconds, and a mastery of the craft. Plus, he’s in great company with the rest of the cast.
Wright is a Good Fit for the Matt Reeves Batman Cast
Wright seems, to me, a perfect fit for the cast Reeves has compiled to this point for his July 2021 film The Batman. With Paul Dano playing Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and of course, Robert Pattinson as Batman, Wright rounds out a terrific collection of actors. Given the history of Batman casts, the Matt Reeves film is looking to be one of the more promising collections of performers.
