We’re living in an era where superhero television shows are becoming more frequent and more beloved than their film counterparts. Thanks to the booming success of HBO Max, Warner Bros. is continuing to develop its hero and villain lineup on the streaming service, and the word is that the next one might be even more exciting than the last. A Madame X series is coming to HBO Max in the near future, and the team behind it is one giving us lots of hope.

HBO Max to Create Madame X Series Along With J.J. Abrams and Angela Robinson

Madame X, a.k.a. Madame Xanadu, is a character from DC Comics. She made her first appearance back in 1978 with Doorway to Nightmare #1, introducing the unique mystic to the franchise. She was most recently seen on the small screen in Swamp Thing, where actress Jeryl Prescott portrayed the sorceress. The character has plenty of thrilling plot lines and has been an ally to the Suicide Squad, among others. So, we’re eager to see what the HBO Max series does with her.

The series is being produced by J.J. Abrams, known for titles including the 2009 Star Trek reboot, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and more. Angela Robinson will join him in the behind-the-scenes work. She is reported to be working as the writer and executive producer for the series. Some of her most notable credits include The L Word and Professor Marston and the Wonder Woman, so we have faith that she can refreshingly adapt a unique female villain.

An awful lot is going on over at HBO Max these days. There is the upcoming Love and Death series with Elizabeth Olsen in the lead, a new Evil Dead story, and even a Taika Waititi comedy about pirates. This new Madame X series for HBO Max is adding to the growing list, but we think we can make time for all of them, can’t we?

The Madame X series is still pretty early on in development, so be sure to revisit Comic Years in the near future to check for any updates. As always, you can count on us to deliver your comic-adjacent news. After all, we’re just as excited as you are!
