If you’re like all of us writers over here at Comic Years, it’s likely that you’re still not done processing the finale of Loki‘s first season. The episode dropped on July 14th, promising plenty of future chaos in the MCU. Additionally, it came with the news of a highly anticipated second season of the Disney+ series. Though we’re more than thrilled for more episodes of our favorite variants, the news does come with one bummer: Director and executive producer Kate Herron will not return for season 2 of Loki.
Kate Herron Not Coming Back For Loki Season 2
Getting to work on anything within the MCU comes with plenty of excitement. You’re able to work with talented and professional actors. The budgets are massive. Fan reactions are intense. While many of those factors may be a director’s dream, they can also come with some downsides. This may include long filming schedules and top-secret franchise knowledge. And, oh yeah, fan reactions that are more than a little intense.
The explanation that Kate Herron gives when talking about how she won’t return for season 2 of Loki doesn’t focus on the good or the bad. Rather, she explains that she will take a step back because she wants to work on some other stuff that has “yet to be announced.” She also cites a desire to watch a second season from the lens of a fan rather than a creator. It also appears that Herron had only ever planned on committing to one season.
In addition to the news that Herron won’t be returning to Loki, she has also confirmed that she doesn’t plan on working on any future Marvel projects at all for the foreseeable future. However, she’d love to consider it again down the road.

Other projects include plenty of short films, an episode of Daybreak, and more. This director can certainly do everything from coming-of-age comedies to high-action superhero stuff. So, we can’t wait to see what comes next from her.
