It’s not uncommon for popular movies to earn spinoff series or sequels. After all, that’s how franchises are born. But sometimes their success is so unique that it deserves something a little more special. In the case of John Wick, this means a 3-night special event heading to a television near you. The Continental, the upcoming John Wick origin series, has finally begun dropping its casting news. Mel Gibson and Colin Woodell are some of the first to join the crew, amongst a whole slew of talent.

Casting News For The John Wick Origin Series Is Here

The Continental, first announced in 2017, will be based on the characters and settings of the original films. Notably, it will focus on the infamous hotel-for-assassins. Our protagonist will, unfortunately, not be John Wick (Keanu Reeves) himself. Instead, we’ll watch Winston Scott keep up with the madness in 1975 New York. Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant, The Purge) will play this leading role.

Another surprise casting includes Mel Gibson (Braveheart.) The controversial actor/director will play Cormac, whose details have yet to be released.

Other additions to the cast include Hubert Point-Du Jour, Jessica Allain, Mishel Prada, Ben Robson, and Nhung Kate. The behind-the-scenes team for the series includes Kirk Ward and Greg Coolidge as executive producers, writers, and showrunners.

There has yet to be a release date, despite the exciting casting news for the John Wick origin series. Though, the Lionsgate Television/Starz event is expected in 2022. The upcoming film in the franchise, John Wick: Chapter 4, will premiere on May 27th, 2022. So, keep an eye on Comic Years to find out as soon as it’s announced!
