Oh, the Wizarding World. What started out as a humble book series quickly catapulted into an iconic piece of everyone’s childhood. While Harry Potter’s story has (mostly) ended for the foreseeable future, the universe itself doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. With theme parks, spin-offs, websites and the like, Fantastic Beasts is the current attention draw for J.K. Rowling’s world. Critical responses to the second film in the spin-off series, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was a mixed response. Warner Bros. still seems eager to move forward with a third Fantastic Beasts film, with plans for more in the future. Fantastic Beasts 3 will officially begin production in the spring of 2020.
What We Know About Fantastic Beasts 3 So Far
As with the original Harry Potter films, Fantastic Beasts has found its core cast and will be continuing with the same characters. Eddie Redmayne (as Newt Scamander), Jude Law (as a young Albus Dumbledore), Johnny Depp (Gellert Grindelwald), Ezra Miller (Credence), Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein), Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski) and Katherine Waterson (Tina Goldstein) are all set to return. David Yates will remain as a director, who is sure to bring more dark aesthetics to the film, as it seems to have become his signature style.

This third film will stick with the theme of moving to new continents and cities. Following New York and Paris in the first two films, Fantastic Beasts 3 will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as reported by Deadline. Including the new location, the film will reportedly feature Jessica Williams in a key role. Williams appeared in Crimes of Grindelwald as Professor Eulalie Hicks, a.k.a. Lally. Lally is a teacher at the Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I’d say that she’s the American McGonagall, but nobody will ever be as iconic of a witch as Dame Maggie Smith.
The Future Of Fantastic Beasts Ahead Of Production
Everything Harry Potter related tends to bring in quite a bit of box office money, regardless of critical reviews. Considering the first films in the new series brought in a combined $1.47 billion, we’re sure that the future of Fantastic Beasts will hold high production value and plenty of artistic freedom. The next film will likely kick off right after the end of the last film. It saw the discovery that Credence is actually Albus’ long-lost brother, Aurelius. So, instead of a showdown between Grindelwald and Dumbledore, it may end up being Dumbledore versus Dumbledore.
Fantastic Beasts 3 is yet to start production, but things tend to move quickly in the Wizarding World and we may yet be watching it at the theatre sooner than expected.
