We first learned that the Wool series by Hugh Howey was getting an adaptation a few months back. At that time, it was announced that Rebecca Ferguson would star in and executive produce the series. Now, a few more well-known actors are joining the cast of the Wool adaptation on AppleTV+.

David Oyelowo will play the Sheriff of the Silo that the show inhabits, in a dystopian future where humanity has gone underground. Sheriff Holston is one of the main characters of the first book of the Wool series. Oyelowo has an extremely prolific filmography. It is hard to say that there is one role he is known for. But in the genre realm, we know him as the voice for the character of Agent Kallus in Star Wars: Rebels.

Rashida Jones will take the leap from comedic television to sci-fi, appearing in her first live-action genre role. Jones will play a character named Allison, the wife of Sheriff Holston who primarily appears in flashbacks throughout the series.

Rebecca Ferguson (Dune) will also star in the Wool adaptation as a hardworking engineer named Juliette. It is likely that her role will be expanded for the television series, as her character is not prominent until later books of the series, Screenwriter Graham Yost and director Morten Tyldum are also onboard for the Wool adaptation on AppleTV+ – which will be produced by AMC Studios.

A Dystopian Future For AppleTV+

The Wool series by Hugh Howey is a trilogy that includes the stories Wool, Shift, and Dust. Originally self-published as short stories online, the series became a sensation that later became a trilogy of books. The series has also seen a graphic novel adaptation, and that may help inform the style of the upcoming show. Previously the story was due to become a film directed by Ridley Scott. Eventually AMC picked up the rights to Wool, and they will produce the series for AppleTV+.

There is no release date information for The Wool at the time of this writing.

We do not yet know when Wool will air on AppleTV+. However, we look forward to learning more about this adaptation as it continues to develop. For all of the latest genre news, be sure to follow Comic Years on Facebook and Twitter today.

Emily O'Donnell is a writer and photographer with roots in some of the earliest online fandoms. She cut her genre teeth on the Wizard of Oz books at the tender age of 6 years old, and was reading epic adult fantasy novels by the age of 10. Decades later, she still consumes genre fiction like there is no tomorrow. She is delighted to be living through the golden age of sci-fi and fantasy popularity. She is unashamed of the amount of fanfiction that still lingers online under her name.
