The Wheel of Time Sets Premiere For November On Amazon Prime, First Teaser Poster Revealed
Fans of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy series The Wheel of Time watched the San Diego Comic-Con At Home panels this week with baited breath. Would we finally get a trailer for the upcoming adaptation from Amazon Prime? Turns out the answer to that question was no. However, we did get a brief interview with showrunner Rafe Judkins who unveiled the first teaser poster for The Wheel of Time, along with a premiere… month. Fortunately we don’t have too long to wait before we see beloved characters like Moiraine, Lan, and the Emond’s Field crew come to life on screen. The Wheel of Time will premiere in November on Amazon Prime, and we have a teaser poster to prove it.
A Teaser Poster Reveals The Premiere Month For The Wheel of Time

The teaser poster for The Wheel of Time shows a single figure standing in a doorway. This is the character of Moiraine, played by Rosamund Pike. This image that features her alone reinforces my suspicions that the first season of the adaptation will be focusing on Moiraine. Showrunner Rafe Judkins also confirmed this in his SDCC interview when he called Rosamund Pike the ‘lead’ for the series. This is a bit of a deviation from the books, but it is one that makes a lot of sense. Moiraine is a highly important figure in the books, but she remains mysterious and opaque for much of the series.
The events of the first book – The Eye of the World – are seen primarily through the eyes of Rand Al’Thor – one of the main characters of the series. However, there is a lot of backstory and history to the world that involves Moiraine and the Aes Sedai. It seems extremely likely that the first season will incorporate a lot of this backstory. Including the set-up for her search for the reincarnation of an ancient hero termed The Dragon Reborn. By shifting the framing of the series to be from Moiraine’s point of view, we will be able to understand a lot more of the world history because of her knowledge.

It is also important to note where Moiraine is standing in this poster. This is no ordinary doorway. It seems pretty clear that she is standing at the entrance to a Waygate. These are magical portals that allow characters in the world to travel across long distances quickly. Unfortunately, it also means navigating a dark and dangerous underworld. Where time and space behave according to a different set of rules. The Ways were once safe passage for everyone in the world. But the space between the Waygates was tainted by The Dark One after “The Breaking of the World.”
The Ways are now home to a malevolent force known as “machin shin” or “the black wind.” It seeks out any living thing that enters its domain and corrupts it. Travelers are eventually driven mad by this force, making a journey through the Ways extremely perilous indeed.
Of course that means there is a moment in The Eye of the World when many of the characters must travel through The Ways. Featuring the Waygate on the poster indicates that not only will we see this journey in the first season of The Wheel of Time, but also that it is an extremely important moment for the series. This image of Moiraine in front of a gateway also teases another pivotal moment for her character that occurs in a later book. So this teaser poster for The Wheel of Time is pulling double duty with the foreshadowing.
