The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Cast Is As Weird And Intriguing As We’d Expect

Netflix finally gives us The Umbrella Academy season 3 cast list, and it’s pretty exciting. The cliffhanger ending of season 2 saw a new group of students dubbed The Sparrow Academy, living in the place of our titular siblings upon their return from the ’60s. Ben (Jusin H. Min) was the only cast member of the Sparrows we saw at the time, who was alive and well. But totally non-Ben-like. With The Umbrella Academy season 3 cast revealed, we get more of an idea of the other actors, not to mention their weird dynamics with one another. And it’s exactly what you would expect from this bonkers show.

Who Are The Sparrow Academy?

When our heroes stopped the world from nuclear disaster and returned to the present-day, not everything was how it should be. Something in the past changed their present. Their lives seemingly replaced by a new set of students trained by their father instead of them. This new group of the Sparrow Academy has similar numerical monikers as our own heroes, similarly ranked based on their hierarchy in the family.

Replacing Luther (Tom Hopper) as No. 1 is Marcus (Justin Cornwell) who is supposedly a charming and chiseled colossus. Marcus is the leader who keeps the family together and commands respect, while still being compassionate. His personality attributes sound eerily similar to Luther, clearly meant to be a counterpart of his more demure and timid nature. No. 2 is our own Ben, who is unlike the reluctant boy who died and became a ghost. This version of Ben is apparently a master tactician who is vying for No. 1 status. I can already sense the tension.

No. 3 of the new Sparrow Academy is Fei, (Britine Olford) who plays a loner who sees the world differently. She’s smart and simple, but also persistent and determined. She definitely sounds like the brains of the new group, but also very much a counterpart to Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman). Alphonso (Jake Epstein) is No. 4 who is the battle-hardened of the bunch. Apparently fighting crime for years is very visible on his face and body with all the scars he’s accumulated through his adventures. Diego (David Castaneda) anyone?

Rounding out the new Sparrow Academy is Sloane who is No. 5, Sloane (Genesis Rodriguez) who is supposedly has a higher cosmic calling, but feels obligated to stay with her family. Well, that sounds also eerily similar to Vanya (Elliot Page). The last of The Umbrella Academy season 3 cast is Jayme (Cazzie David) who is a loner with an “ear inducing snarl”. Apparently, she can make anyone fear her, but she also is ferocious enough to back up her bite. She’s the only one of the new cast that I can’t relate to anyone else. Well, almost the only one.

When Dysfunctional Superheroes Meet A Cube?

The most interesting, and I mean, the absolutely most interesting member of this new cast is Christopher, played by Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube. It’s a cube, guys. But one that apparently has telekinetic powers, is respected as a member of the family and a close confidant and mediator. He’s just another geometric shaped sibling for the rest of his brothers and sisters who love him like family. What?

These characters, cube withstanding, are nearly others who were born on the same day as the original The Umbrella Academy. How or why they factor into the story for season 3 is something we will only find out when the season releases. It’s reasons like this that I love The Umbrella Academy and it’s off the wall quirk and outrageousness. Season 3 will begin filming in February in Toronto.
