The Falcon And The Winter Soldier Super Bowl Trailer Gives Us The MCU Buddy Action-Comedy We’ve Been Waiting For

There have been a few Marvel Cinematic Universe movies that can be described as buddy comedies. For lack of a better descriptor. Captain Marvel saw Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) pal around in the ’90s. Thor: Ragnarok was all about Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) reluctantly having to work together. But these movies were all variations of the buddy comedy genre. Whereas the new The Falcon And The Winter Soldier Super Bowl trailer gives us the best iteration of that genre possible within the MCU. The latest series showcasing Marvel heroes on Disney+ will provide action, laughs, and show us how Captain America’s best pals are making their way without him.

The Lead Character’s Relationship Continues From Previous Movies

While we got a sort of teaser trailer before, this new Falcon And The Winter Soldier Super Bowl trailer totally brings it! It’s got a lot of heart, humor, action, and major spectacle embedded into it. The trailer also continues and moves the story forward from the dynamic of the two characters established in the previous MCU movies.

The trailer opens with Sam Wilson, a.k.a., The Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) in what looks like a counseling session. This relates to how the two aren’t the best of friends from their previous interactions. Having met during Captain America: Civil War, the two best friends of Steve Rogers never see eye to eye. They’ve had their share of humorous banter, repartee, not to mention fighting over a seat in a rental.

But they’re really not friends. But now, with the absence of their mutual friend, they’ll havve to work together to defeat whatever threat is coming their way. It’s a great inclusion in the trailer, to see that their backstory does follow through into the series and that they’re not going to be immediately the best of friends because they’re in a show together.

The trailer continues to introduce the main baddie of the series, Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) himself. Zemo will be best remembered for his role in Captain America: Civil War, which is where we saw him last. The Marvel Comics villain is the one responsible for tearing the Avengers apart, by using Bucky’s previous brainwashing against them. His return here brings up many questions, specifically about whether he is still able to control Bucky in the same way, making the hero a liability.

The action in the trailer is spellbinding. It’s very much reminiscent of the action in the entire Captain America trilogy of movies, which is something to get very excited about. If there’s any other MCU content that The Falcon And Winter Soldier Super Bowl trailer could model itself after, the action of those movies is the best to emulate. The musical choice of the trailer definitely helps the trailer’s cause as well.

How Falcon And Winter Solider Super Bowl Trailer Differs From The Others

The Falcon And The Winter Solider Super Bowl trailer Mackie.

The first trailer spends more time on the quiet somber moments, reflecting on Captain America’s legacy after Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) somewhat, kinda retirement. This trailer is more about the action and funny bits, without revealing any of the larger aspects of the story itself. We still don’t know what the main threat is, or what the series will actually be about. But the appearance of Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) is even more exciting, proving that there will be a lot more connections to the MCU than just these two main characters.

Both Bucky and Sam throw Cap’s shield around, making it very ambiguous what’s happening with the Cap of it all. While Sam never accepted Cap’s passing the shield to him, the series will focus on who the next Captain America will truly be. So it’s all very much up in the air still. Pardon the pun. Regardless, the trailer excites me much more than any other marketing for The Falcon And the Winter Soldier thus far. So job well done Marvel!
