Seth MacFarlane’s Ted TV series wrapped its production just a few months after the show’s filming began.

The iconic foul-mouthed teddy bear Ted is back for more laughs with Seth MacFarlane’s Ted TV series. MacFarlane directed the films and was one of the films’ writers and producers.

The first film hit the theatres in 2012, and it instantly became a box office hit. It grossed a whopping $594.4 million against a $50-65 million budget. Because of its popularity, it cemented itself as the second highest-grossing comedy film of 2012. Due to the success of its first film, a sequel, Ted 2, followed three years later.

The Ted franchise follows the life of John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) whose childhood dream and wish were to bring his teddy bear to life. After making his wish upon a shooting star, the cuddly teddy bear becomes sentient. The two formed an unlikely friendship, often calling themselves “Thunder Buddies.” Thirty years later, Ted became a foul-mouthed individual and lives with John and his live-in girlfriend, Lori Collins (Mila Kunis). Throughout the film, the relationship between the two protagonists would be put to different tests.

Meanwhile, the sequel Ted 2, happens a few years after the first film’s events. John is now a bachelor after divorcing Lori. Conversely, Ted is now married man with Tami-Lynn McCafferty (Jessica Barth). The couple wanted to celebrate their love and adopt a child and that is where the problem began. As it turns out (obviously so), the United States of America categorizes Ted as a property, not a person, making him ineligible to adopt. Trying to resolve their newfound problem, they sought help from a lawyer named Samantha Jackson (Amanda Seyfried).

Despite failing to achieve the same success as the first film, Ted 2 was still a box office hit. The sequel grossed a total of $215.9 million on a$68 million budget.

The Comeback of the Thunder Buddies in Ted TV Series

Five years after the release of Ted 2, Seth MacFarlane will reprise his role as Ted in the Ted TV series. He also directed and wrote the series.

It was in June 2021 when streaming service Peacock gave a series order for a prequel series to the 2012 film. Because the Ted TV series acts as a prequel to the show, actors Mila Kunis and Mark Wahlberg won’t be reprising their roles as Lori and John.

The cast includes Seth MacFarlane as Ted and Alanna Ubach as John’s mom Susan Bennett. Scott Grimes will be portraying John’s father, Matty Bennett. Child actor Max Burkholder will be the younger version of John Bennett. Meanwhile, Giorgia Wingham will be playing the role of John’s cousin Blair, who is staying with them while attending college.

The production of the Ted TV series began in August 2022, and the first season will feature eight episodes.

This is the show’s official synopsis:

It’s 1993, and Ted the bear’s moment of fame has passed, leaving him living with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett, who lives in a working-class Boston home with his parents and cousin. Ted may not be the best influence on John, but when it comes right down to it, Ted’s willing to go out on a limb to help his friend and his family.

In an Instagram post, McFarlane shared a picture of Ted on set, and in his caption, he thanked the cast and crew of the show.

“That’s a wrap on “Ted”! A big thanks to our brilliant cast @fat_kookaburra @scottchristophergrimes @alannaubach @giorgia_whigham and our stellar crew! Get ready, the bear is back. @peacocktv

The Ted TV series is expected to start streaming in Peacock in 2023.
