Do you remember when Eleven had to count the days as she waited for permission to return to the normal world? That was way back when in season 2 of Stranger Things, and it was *checks calendar* almost 5 whole years ago. We have had a bit more empathy for her eagerness now that it has been almost a thousand days (and counting) since we last had new content from the Netflix series. We’re almost done waiting, and new Stranger Things 4 first look photos are finally here to remind us why it’s been worth it.

The Stranger Things 4 First Look Photos Are Here And Tell Us A Lot

We last left Hawkins on a few cliffhangers and a few neatly wrapped conclusions at the end of Stranger Things 3. The gang defeated yet another threat from the Upside Down, killing the Mind Flayer (and sacrificing Billy in the process.) Meanwhile, Joyce, Hopper, and Murray work together to close the gate, preventing future creepy crawlers from coming back. We get another sacrifice here, as Hopper is right in the path of destruction, but season 4 promos have already confirmed that he’s still in the picture.

After a long wait, mostly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Stranger Things 4 will finally debut on May 27th. The first batch of episodes will drop then, with the second half of the season coming on July 1st.

Volume 1 of season 4 will pick up six months after season 3’s finale. A lot has happened, and the characters have separated. Some have stayed in Hawkins. Others, like Eleven, Will, and Joyce, have moved to California. And then there’s Hopper, who is trapped somewhere in Russia.

A recent batch of Stranger Things 4 first look photos give us even more clues about what has happened to our characters.

What’s In Store For Season 4?

The past seasons of Stranger Things have famously split up our favorite characters into different groups. They’ve managed to make it work in unique and clever ways, ensuring that the dynamics between friends, lovers, and enemies have kept us on our toes. Based on the latest photos, it seems like we’re going to be looking at a few more gangs.

Nancy (Natalia Dyer) will reunite with Steve (Joe Keery) and his new best friend and Robin, the previous newcomer from season 3 played by Maya Hawke.

The younger group, consisting of Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Max (Sadie Sink), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), and Erica (Priah Ferguson) are sure to have a lot of screentime together.

Mike (Finn Wolfhard, last seen in Ghostbusters: Afterlife) remains dedicated to his friends, too. While he’s seen reuniting with Will and Jonathan, he’s also made a new friend in Argyle (Eduardo Franco.)

Argyle isn’t the only new character seen in the new photos. Another, Eddie (Joseph Quinn), is seen leading a D&D campaign back in Hawkins.

Also featured amongst the pack of new photos is one featuring Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Murray (Brett Gelman.) The snowy backdrop means that they’ve come to find Hopper. Could they have flown in that busted plane behind them? And, if they did, how on earth are they going to be getting out?

Stranger Things Returns To Netflix On May 27th.

Readers, have the Stranger Things 4 first look photos changed your theories and expectations for the new episodes? We have had years to theorize. Now that we’re counting down the last few weeks, it’s time to make your final predictions. Will the Upside Down be right side up again? Will there be more international foes? And will the gang finally have some damn peace and quiet? We’ll find out soon enough.
