The Upcoming Star Wars Show “The Acolyte” On Disney+ Will Tie Into The High Republic
We have been covering news of The High Republic for awhile now. It is the next big multimedia publishing event in the Star Wars universe. The High Republic takes place during the “Golden Age of the Jedi,” centuries before any of the films. After a pandemic-induced delay, the first books in The High Republic are due for release next month.
So far we know about numerous books and graphic novels that are set in this time period. But now we have news that one of the upcoming Disney+ shows in the Star Wars universe will tie in to The High Republic era. The Acolyte will be helmed by Russian Doll showrunner Leslye Headland. It is described as a “a mystery-thriller that will take the audience into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”

The events of upcoming High Republic books appear to take place in the midst of something called The Great Disaster. Many of the stories revolve around Jedi struggling to put the pieces back together after this incident. There is also a mysterious new alien race involved, but we don’t know too much about them yet.
It is interesting that The Acolyte will take place in the ‘final days’ of The High Republic. This would certainly seem to indicate that the books and graphic novels will all take place during the decline of the Jedi’s Golden Age. It is entirely possible that all of the stories in the books and comics will lead up to The Acolyte. It would also appear that this new show will be the first Star Wars show to focus on a user of the Dark Side. Will they be a Sith? Or something else entirely?
We will be waiting awhile for The Acolyte to hit our screens and answer these questions. But in the meantime we can look forward to the beginning of The High Republic. The first book – The Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule – is due out in January.
