All hail the Queen! Olivia Colman is making her way from a starring role in The Crown on Netflix to a mysterious new role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reports indicate that Olivia Colman is in negotiations to appear in the upcoming Secret Invasion series. This show was just one big announcement from Marvel Studios on Disney Investors Day.  She would star alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, and Kingsley Ben-Adir.

Will Olivia Colman Play The Skrull Queen In Secret Invasion?

Marvel has not yet officially confirmed the news, nor commented on what role Olivia Colman might play in the series. Joining a big budget franchise would be a new move for the Academy Award winning actress. Colman is comfortable on both big and small screens. She has appeared in shows like Fleabag, and won awards for prestige films like The Favorite – where she also portrayed a Queen.

My biggest question is what Queen can Colman play in the MCU? Perhaps she will play Veranke – the Skrull Queen? That would honestly be pretty amazing. And it would also make sense if the series is drawing closely from its source material. Veranke is after all one of the main antagonists in the Secret Invasion storyline from the comics. Consider this our official wildly speculative prediction.

Secret Invasion Is Still In The Works

Secret Invasion follows up on the Skrull storyline established in Captain Marvel. Ben Mendelsohn reprises his role of the Skrull General Talos from that film. Newcomer Kingsley Ben-Adir will play that (as of yet) unknown villain. Samuel L. Jackson will appear as Nick Fury, marking his first major appearance in the MCU shows on Disney+.

The series is still in development over at Disney+ with only a few cast members announced. Kyle Bradstreet of Mr. Robot is onboard as writer and executive producer. The series is set to begin filming in Autumn of 2021 so it is unlikely we will see it come to Disney+ before next year.

The next MCU show after WandaVision and Falcon & The Winter Soldier will be the Loki series that is set to air in June. There is also a slew of new MCU projects coming this year to Disney+ alongside all of the Star Wars content. Also, Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be the next MCU movies to hit the big-screen (and Disney+ premier access, at least for the former).

Emily O'Donnell is a writer and photographer with roots in some of the earliest online fandoms. She cut her genre teeth on the Wizard of Oz books at the tender age of 6 years old, and was reading epic adult fantasy novels by the age of 10. Decades later, she still consumes genre fiction like there is no tomorrow. She is delighted to be living through the golden age of sci-fi and fantasy popularity. She is unashamed of the amount of fanfiction that still lingers online under her name.
