After the success of the first season of Shadow & Bone, Netflix has unsurprisingly committed to another season for the YA fantasy series. News broke this week that Netflix would continue to adapt the books from Leigh Bardugo’s series that is popularly known as the Grishaverse.  The second book in the series – Siege & Storm – will make up the majority of the story for season 2 of Shadow & Bone on Netflix.

Shadow & Bone Renewed For Second Season At Netflix

Shadow & Bone stars Ben Barnes, and Jesse Mei Li who are both returning for season 2. Also onboard are the rest of the first season cast: Archie Renaux; Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Kit Young, Danielle Galligan, and Calahan Skogman. Showrunner Eric Heisserer is also returning for season 2 of Shadow & Bone. And he teased the return of the show’s stand-out character – Milo the goat.

“I’m honored and thrilled to return to the Grishaverse and continue the stories of these endearing characters. Particularly Milo,” Heisserer said in a statement.

Season 2 of Shadow and Bone has been renewed on Netflix to continue the story of Alina Starkov. She is the Sun Summoner, who has the power to bring down the magical barrier known as the Darkfold. And of course, her tumultuous relationship with the ancient magic user known as The Darkling will continue to develop in season 2.

Expanding The World of Shadow & Bone

Author Leigh Bardugo also expressed her excitement at continuing the adaptation of her bestselling books. She also spoke about the expansion of the world and the ensemble cast as the story continues.

“I’ve been writing in the Grishaverse for nearly ten years now. So I’m thrilled we get to keep this adventure going,” Bardugo said. “There are so many places we’ve barely gotten to visit. And I can’t wait to introduce our audience to more of the saints; soldiers, thugs, thieves, princes and privateers who make this world so much fun to explore. It’s going to be real magic to see our brilliant, talented cast expand.”

The show has already drawn in characters from future books like Six of Crows, so it remains to be seen how much of the later Grishaverse material might also make it into season 2. There is certainly a lot to draw from, as Bardugo has also written another duology set in the world of Ravka that starts with King of Scars. She also has several books of folklore from the world, such as The Language of Thorns.  These stories could eventually find their way into the Netflix series as well, in order to fully flesh out the world.

Shadow & Bone is streaming on Netflix now, and we look forward to learning when season 2 will arrive. Are you excited to see Shadow & Bone renewed for season 2 on Netflix? Tell us what you think of the series so far by joining the conversation with Comic Years on Facebook and Twitter today!

She is unashamed of the amount of fanfiction that still lingers online under her name.
