Guten Abend, Doom Nation! It’s me, the biggest Doomer you know, back to share some exciting news. We’ve got a new cast member coming! Michelle Gomez is joining Doom Patrol for season 3. The COVID-19 pandemic truncated the second season of the breakout hit for DC TV, but they will be back as all of us die-hard Doomeisters knew they would.

Who Is Michelle Gomez?

Michelle Gomez is a Scottish actress. Oh, you wanted more than that? Well, you might know her from such shows as Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. However, if you watched Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 4, then you might be trying to forget that. Her dual characters, Mrs. Wardwell and Lilith (Madame Satan), though, were always a demented delight.

More recently, she was a dangerous delight of a different kind on HBO Max’s addictive adaptation of the Chris Bohjalian thriller The Flight Attendant. Kaley Cuoco was, of course, the star of that show, and she was great. But having a strong cast, of which Gomez was a standout (as Miranda Croft), certainly helped.

Before either of those, though, you might have seen her as Missy on Doctor Who. She played the first gender-bent Time Lord, taking up the role of the Master from John Simm. She’s easily the fan-favorite version of the character, at least in this modern iteration of the show. She got a BAFTA nod in 2016 for that role, incidentally.

Back in September, Doom Patrol got a third season order. Unlike the previous two seasons, which aired on DC Universe and then both DCU and HBO Max, this third season will be exclusive to HBO’s streaming service. And as we all know, the second season already ended, so Gomez is joining Doom Patrol for the third.

She’ll be playing Madame Rouge, an antagonist for season 3. As the press release says, she’s “a complicated and electrifying eccentric who arrives at Doom Manor with a very specific mission, if only she could remember it.”

In the comic books, she was born Laura De Mille, a woman who developed a personality split between good and evil when she sustained injuries following a car accident. A little evil surgery later, and she got some fascinating new talents–stretchiness like Elastigirl, but also incredible powers of disguise. Basically, she can appear as any character, so it’s good that they hired Michelle Gomez, because they can save on special effects costs. (Because she’s such a good actress that she can just become other people with her talent alone. You get it.)

What do you think about the newest cast member of our favorite show, Doom Nation? Tell us on our social media, in these comments, or whisper it gently to the moon. She’ll tell me.
