Kelly Marie Tran has spent a decade building up short film roles and television credits. However, the role that brought her to everyone’s radar was starring as Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi in 2017, reprising her role in The Rise of Skywalker. Her role as Rose may be over, but thankfully we’ll be seeing her on-screen again soon. Hulu’s upcoming anthology series Monsterland has added Kelly Marie Tran to its cast.

Kelly Marie Tran Joins Monsterland Cast

Monsterland is based on spooky stories by Nathan Ballingrud. The created world includes mermaids, fallen angels, and a variety of other fantasy creatures. The anthology won’t just revolve around creatures. Instead, the focus will be on the great lengths that people will go to fix their lives. So, this certainly won’t be your basic monster show!

The episode that Tran stars in, Iron River, MI, will reportedly follow her character, Lauren, as she returns to her hometown in Michigan. Lauren dealt with childhood trauma after her childhood best friend, Elena, went missing. Both Lauren and Elena were only sixteen at the time of her disappearance.

Kelly Marie Tran joins Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart), Taylor Schilling (Orange Is the New Black), Jonathan Tucker (Westworld), and Mike Colter (Luke Cage, Jessica Jones), who will each star in episodes of Monsterland. Mary Laws (Succession, Preacher) is the creator, writer, and executive producer of the series. Babak Anvari, Lucan Toh, Megan Ellison, and Sue Naegle are executive producing, with Ali Krug as the co-executive producer.

Another Series To Add To Our “Must Watch” Lists

Anthology shows have always been a popular concept. Some series have tackled season-long arcs, such as American Horror Story. Others, like Black Mirror, have nailed the one-story-per-episode concept. They somehow manage to be worthy of a good binge-watch, while also ensuring that great ideas don’t get too overblown in their concepts.

The Annapurna-produced show currently does not have a release date. Our fingers are crossed that the current filming restrictions do not impact the series’ creation. Though, we’ll be patiently waiting for its arrival no matter when it comes!
