Interview With The Vampire Series Casts Sam Reid As Lestat In Adaptation Of Anne Rice Series For AMC
Interview With The Vampire has found its Lestat in Sam Reid for the upcoming AMC adaptation of The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. Reports indicate that Australian actor Sam Reid has landed the coveted role of Lestat de Lioncourt. He is the first actor to be cast in the series. And while Lestat is arguably the main character in the overall Vampire Chronicles, it is important to note that he is not the vampire being interviewed as per the title. That is the character of Louis, whose actor is still unknown.
The vampire Lestat was famously portrayed by Tom Cruise in the 1994 adaptation of Interview With The Vampire. In that film, Brad Pitt played the angsty vampire Louis. Stuart Townsend also played the role of Lestat in the follow-up film that most Anne Rice fans dread to mention – Queen of the Damned.

Sam Reid joins the new Interview With The Vampire adaptation for AMC fresh off his role in the ABC drama The Newsreader. He is a veteran television actor, appearing in mini-series like Lambs of God and shows like The Astronaut Wives Club. Reid also appeared in the acclaimed period drama Belle starring opposite Loki‘s Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
Reid does not have a ton of genre credits on his resume. And he has rarely been the lead actor in his shows. So it will be interesting to see how he does as the most famous vampire of Anne Rice’s literary world. It might be beneficial for AMC to cast a relatively unknown actor, especially if the series goes on for awhile as Lestat features heavily in most of The Vampire Chronicles.

Interview With The Vampire is the first book in the prolific Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, and it will be the first to see adaptation. It will set the stage for adaptation of Rice’s later vampire books that focus more on Lestat including The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned. As well as later books like my personal favorites Memnoch The Devil and Tale of the Body Thief.
Physically, Sam Reid has many of the correct features to play the vampire Lestat. He is tall, blonde, blue-eyed, and very pretty. But will he have the acting chops to pull off Lestat’s mix of campy drama and vulnerability? We’ll have to wait until Interview With The Vampire premieres on AMC to find out. The 8-part limited series is slated to begin production soon, with a premiere later this year on AMC.
We will certainly be keeping an eye on more casting news for the upcoming Vampire Chronicles adaptation. Be sure to stay tuned to Comic Years on Facebook and Twitter for all of the latest news and our reviews.
