Teen dramas are a thing of beauty. There are thousands of coming-of-age tales to tell, sure. But every once in a while, a writer will come up with a story that feels so authentic and genuine, while also being able to touch the lives of everybody who reads it. Heartstopper is one of these stories. News of the graphic novel being translated on-screen was released earlier this year, but we finally have something new to report. The Heartstopper adaptation for Netflix has just announced its cast members.

Netflix Names Lead Cast For Heartstopper Adaptation

Kit Conner will be taking on the role of Nick Nelson. The young actor is best known for his performance as Pantalaimon on His Dark Materials. Joining him in the spotlight is Joe Locke, who will be playing Charlie Spring. It will be Locke’s first acting credit, which he earned after beating out a reported 10,000 others. A story as sweet as this one will need undeniable chemistry, and we’re excited to see how Kit and Joe’s translates on screen.

The story told in Alice Oseman’s comic series, Heartstopper, is a queer love story between Nick and Charlie. The approach to their love story is much more joyous than various other gay love stories. They have often focused on a bleak history of same-sex love affairs in the past or the tragedies that have occurred due to the long fight that still continues to be fought in courts worldwide. So, we’re excited to see something that may just give some young l0vers a happy ending!

The light-hearted romance will be told via Netflix in an eight-episode season, with 30-minute episodes. The series already announced its behind-the-camera crew, including Euros Lyn (Sherlock, Doctor Who) in the directing chair. Oseman remains attached to the project as the main writer.

Readers, will you watch Heartstopper on Netflix once it releases? We know that we’ll be watching!
