Ewan McGregor Will Narrate New Docuseries – Stormborn – For Smithsonian Channel
When you hear news that Ewan McGregor is attached to a project titled Stormborn, you might think that this is a new fantasy series or action thriller. And indeed the series does take place in beautiful and fantastical locales, far from where most humans venture. Stormborn is actually a three-part docuseries from the Smithsonian channel. It will “follow animals battling the elements along the coast of McGregor’s homeland of Scotland, as well as Iceland and Norway.” The series is the newest addition to the Smithsonian channel’s “Wild Wednesdays” lineup, that focuses on the natural world and its history.

According to a press release: “Stormborn travels to the most remote and rugged landscapes of the North to film a compelling cast of charismatic and tenacious characters. Including Arctic foxes; otters, and reindeer, over the course of a dramatic breeding season. Featuring emotional and suspenseful storylines, Stormborn captures never-before-seen animal behavior. And reveals the extreme weather conditions these species face to ensure their bloodlines survive.”
The series will travel into the rarely seen areas of the Subarctic where camera crews recorded rare footage of animal behavior. This includes “arctic foxes in Iceland developing and mastering a new hunting technique to catch kittiwakes; drone footage of an orca catching a porpoise; remarkable 4K footage of a seal killing a pup; and incredibly detailed footage of a reindeer fjord crossing.”
McGregor said about Stormborn that “It’s amazing to get such a personal glimpse into the lives of such amazing animals.”
Ewan McGregor Is A Nature Enthusiast
Actor Ewan Mcgregor is currently hard at work since the start of filming the Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney+. But McGregor is no stranger to the wild country. He has shot three different travel documentary shows that follow him and his friend Charley Boorman on motorcycle trips around the world.
The first show Long Way Round followed the pair as they traversed the world from London to New York via Europe. It was followed by a second series Long Way Down where they rode from Scotland to Africa. A third series Long Way Up aired on Apple Tv+ in September 2020. This last series had the twist of McGregor and Boorman riding electric motorcycles from South America to the United States.

When discussing his travel shows, McGregor reaffirmed his love of the natural world. “I just love seeing Mother Nature like this, watching the land change as we go by. It’s really touching me, and what I was looking for in terms of feeling closer to the world, the Earth, appreciating the beauty of it as we ride along.”
So it makes sense that McGregor would lend his voice to another nature series, designed to both educate and entertain. And to be honest, we’ll take any excuse to listen to his brogue for hours on end. The first episode of Stormborn – narrated by Ewan McGregor – will air on the Smithsonian Channel on March 10, 2021 at 8pm ET.

She is unashamed of the amount of fanfiction that still lingers online under her name.
