Spider-Man this, Spider-Man that… It’s easy to forget that there are other films and series out there worthy of getting excited for. And one of the ones at the top of our list shares a star with the highest-grossing film of 2021: Zendaya. The Euphoria season 2 trailer is finally here, proving once again that the actress is ready to tear at our heartstrings. We only have a few weeks to wait for the new episodes to drop, but it still feels too far away.

Euphoria exploded after its premiere in 2019. Reviews loved it for its unique approach to the highs and lows of adolescence, as the series was clearly unafraid of approaching even the darkest subjects. It also showed a surprisingly honest portrayal of drug addiction in young adults, which was further explored in the first special, Trouble Don’t Always Last. These praises, mixed with award-winning performances by Zendaya and Hunter Schafer, ensured that a second season would need to be stellar.

The second season is finally approaching. As shown in the trailer, it looks like Zendaya’s Rue remains at odds with her addictions, while finally accepting that Jules (Schafer) might be somebody worth getting over. Meanwhile, the rest of the gang is dealing with troubles of their own.

Season 2 comes after Zendaya collaborated with the creator, Sam Levinson, in the not-so-critically-acclaimed Malcolm & Marie at the beginning of the pandemic. The film was far duller than what fans of the series had anticipated, but the creative duo still came up with something worth watching despite the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. Hopefully, they’ll be back at the top of their game with this new season.

According to the trailer, Season 2 of Euphoria premieres on January 9th on HBO Max.
