David Tennet In Around The World In 80 Days Series Trailer Lets Us Travel The World Without Leaving The Couch
Thanks to airplanes and new technology, people can travel around the world in basically a couple of days (that’s what I’m guessing thanks to my completely non-scientific method of googling airplane flight times from the East Coast of the USA to Australia). Back in the day though (specifically the late 19th century), it could take months to go anywhere, which is part of the premise of the Jules Verne title, Around the World in 80 Days. The book, which documents the travels and adventures of Phileas Fogg as he circumnavigates the world, has been a staple in literature circles for decades, and now we’re going to get a PBS series with David Tennet in Around the World in 80 Days! The teaser trailer dropped earlier this year and now we have the full trailer to look forward to! Let’s get into it.

Something that the full trailer does that the teaser didn’t is that it gave us a more in-depth look into the main characters. In the teaser, we caught a glimpse of Tennet as Phileas Fogg (and his epic mustache!), but the Around the World in 80 Days full trailer gave audiences a better sense of his traveling companions, Abigail Fix (played by The Crown‘s Leonie Benesch) and Jean Passepartout (played by Mother is Wrong‘s Ibrahim Koma). We got to see a a few of the places that Phileas and his friends will go (India and the Sahara Desert?) as well as some of the issues that will pop up (seasickness and possible assassins?). The series looks like it’ll be a lot of fun, combining adventure with humor. There have been two other movies based on Verne’s novel (one that came out in 1956 and another that came out in 2004 and had Jackie Chan in the role of Jean), both of which also had elements of goofiness, so it seems like the series will be in good company.
Around the World in 80 Days is going to be an eight episode series with Simon Crawford Collins serving as executive producer alongside Lionel Uzan, Pascal Breton, and Winnie Serite.
