Actor Camrus Johnson has played the role of Luke Fox since the beginning of Batwoman on the CW. He has remained in the role even as the actress playing Batwoman changed. Now Johnson will have the opportunity to step up and become a hero in his own right, as he becomes Batwing in season 3 of Batwoman.

The CW dropped some first-look photos of Johnson in costume, and he certainly looks impressive in his new suit. As Batwing he will join forces with Ryan Wilder (aka Batwoman 2.0) as they try to tackle corruption in Gotham. Wilder will need extra help dealing with the ramifications of the second season finale.

With Camrus Johnson donning the mantle of Batwing, the CW adds one more black superhero to their roster. Camrus Johnson made the following statement about how important this moment is to him personally.

“Honestly, it’s hard to explain how much it means to me to wear the Batwing suit and officially play my first superhero,” Johnson said. “The main reason I wanted to be in Batwoman was for this opportunity – to give kids like me another black hero to look up to and relate to. It’s hard not to smile when I catch myself in the mirror with the bat symbol on my chest, and I’ll keep smiling through every fight scene, every awesome stunt, and every Gotham night where Batwing is finally in the field!”

Camrus Johnson Also Wrote A Batwing Comic Book Story

The character of Batwing was first introduced back in 2011 in the title Batman, Incorporated by Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham. Johnson’s character of Luke Fox became Batwing in 2013, in a self-titled comic. Johnson is also clearly dedicated to the role of Batwing. The same day that this news came out, we also learned that the actor penned a comic book story about Batwing for Batman: Urban Legends #4 that recently dropped from DC Comics on June 8.

The Batwoman season 2 finale is set to air on June 27, 2021. We bet that we’ll be seeing Johnson slip into his new role during that finale. What do you think about this Arrowverse news? Join the conversation with Comic Years today on Facebook and Twitter to share your thoughts.
