Benioff And Weiss Are Working On An Adaptation Of The Overstory By Richard Powers For Netflix
Against all odds, studios are still giving the former Game of Thrones showrunners new books to adapt for the screen. This week brought news that Benioff & Weiss are working on an adaptation of The Overstory by Richard Powers for Netflix. Writer Richard Robbins of the excellent 12 Monkeys show is writing the pilot and the majority of the episodes. Powers is also onboard as an executive producer for the series, alongside Hugh Jackman for some reason. Will Jackman end up playing a role in the series? We will have to wait and see.

Benioff & Weiss Team Up With Netflix To Adapt The Overstory
The Overstory came out in 2018 and won the Pulitzer Prize for best novel the following year. It is an environmental fiction novel with many real-world thematic parallels. From the author’s website, a puzzling synopsis tells us the following about the plot of the novel.
A sweeping, impassioned work of activism and resistance that is also a stunning evocation of—and paean to—the natural world. From the roots to the crown and back to the seeds, Richard Powers’s twelfth novel unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fables that range from antebellum New York to the late twentieth-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. There is a world alongside ours—vast, slow, interconnected, resourceful, magnificently inventive, and almost invisible to us. This is the story of a handful of people who learn how to see that world and who are drawn up into its unfolding catastrophe.
The Overstory is the second adaptation that Benioff & Weiss have signed onto for Netflix. They are also adapting the epic Chinese sci-fi novel The Three Body Problem by Liu Cixin. Additionally they are producing a half-hour dramedy called The Chair, starring Sandra Oh. Actress and producer Amanda Peet is technically in charge of that show, with support from her husband – David Benioff.

She is unashamed of the amount of fanfiction that still lingers online under her name.
