Arcane is one of the most popular series on Netflix, with the public’s and critics’ approval. This production is based on the role-playing game League of Legends or LOL. The good adaptations, plots and public support, added with a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes for the first season, resulted in an Arcane season 2.

However, the problem is the release date and its constant modifications. When the first season ended in 2022, the CEO of the game’s developer, Nicolo Laurent, commented that it would not be ready for that year. Now he made a new statement indicating that it would not be ready for this year 2023 either.

Although Laurent commented that Arcane season 2 would not take longer than the first season, the reality is different. He initially stated that it would not be ready by 2022, indicating that we would see this new production by 2023. However, the CEO’s recent comment implies it will not be this year either.

Arcane season 2 will suffer a delay for two reasons, which Laurent indicated. The first is a matter of quality, as they prefer to develop each element of the series with great care and for the public’s enjoyment. On this, Laurent stated the following:

“So, I just watched the third episode of Season 2 before my flight to China. We’re making progress on it. It is not ready yet, and there are two reasons for that. One, you want the quality. We just do not want to rush, and that takes time. So that’s a good reason.

The second reason is their lack of preparation for this Arcane season 2. They had somewhat low expectations for the series and did not expect such a resounding success. That is why they delayed developing this new plot, causing its launch to be postponed. The CEO commented on this point:

“The bad reason is honestly we didn’t know if Season 1 would be a success. So, we didn’t start Season 2 until…. If I had known, we would have started Season 2 way earlier. But we didn’t know, so we kind of waited a bit. So now we’re kind of paying the price.

What will be the New Launch Date?

The existing doubt now is what would be the new release date of Arcane season 2. From Laurent’s statement, we can deduce two things. The first one is that the development process is advanced, considering they were on this new production’s third episode. The other thing is that we will likely see it next year.

Considering both aspects, there could be good news: the premiere of Arcane season 2 would be at the beginning of 2024. This decision makes sense, considering other additional factors, such as the LOL tournament they do every year. This is held in November, an event that would be a good opportunity to announce this new release.

In that tournament, there could be the first samples of the next season of Arcane. They could present the trailer of the new saga, indicating some details such as part of the plot, new characters and abilities.

For the time being, the series’ development goes hand in hand with Netflix, which emphasizes the importance of this production. Considering the money invested by both the streaming giant and RIOT, it is important to present good results.
