Addams Family Netflix Series Casting Adds Ten New Characters
Earlier this year, Netflix announced that it had picked up a live-action Wednesday Addams series and Tim Burton would be directing. The cast has been perfection so far: Jenna Ortega (Jane the Virgin) as the titular character, Luis Guzmán (The Limey, Traffic) as Gomez, and Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago) as Addams family matriarch, Morticia. Now we have more news for the Addams Family Netflix series casting: ten new faces are going to be joining Wednesday in her adventures at Nevermore Academy!
Thora Birch (Ghost World, The Walking Dead): Birch will portray Tamara Novak, Wednesday’s dorm mom with a focus on all things botanical. She’s the only “Normie” on staff (which I assume means she has no powers or abilities).
Riki Lindhome (Knives Out, Another Period): Lindhome will play Dr. Valerie Kinbott, a local therapist who treats Wednesday Addams.
Jamie McShane (Mank, Bloodline): McShane will portray Sheriff Donovan Galpin. Sheriff Galpin has always had an issue with Nevermore Academy and has a vendetta against former student Gomez Addams.
Hunter Doohan (Your Honor, Truth Be Told): Doohan will play Tyler Galpin, a local who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Wednesday. Tyler has a troubled relationship with his father, the local sheriff (played by the aforementioned McShane).
Georgie Farmer (Treadstone, The Evermoor Chronicles): Farmer will portray Ajax Petropolus, a student at Nevermore Academy who also happens to be a Gorgon. He’s awkward and shy, and doesn’t like to look anyone in the eye.
Moosa Mostafa (Nativity Rocks!, The Last Bus): Mostafa will play Eugene Otinger, one of the quirkiest students at Nevermore Academy and president of the school’s bee-keeping club.
Emma Myers (Girl in the Basement, Taste of Christmas): Myers will portray my personal favorite character, Enid Sinclair. She will be Wednesday’s sunny and colorful Californian roommate and hails from a pack of San Francisco Werewolves.
Naomi J. Ogawa (Skylin3s): Ogawa will play Yoko Tanaka, one of the cool kids at Nevermore Academy and a vampire with Harajuku-inspired Goth flair.
Joy Sunday (Dear White People, The Beta Test): Sunday plays Bianca Barclay, a popular student who descends from a long line of Sirens with the power to persuade.
Percy Hynes White (The Gifted, Pretty Hard Cases): White will play Xavier Thorpe, a charismatic and supernaturally artistic Nevermore Academy student. He comes from money thanks to his celebrity psychic father.
It’s still not clear whether other members of the Addams family will be in the series (Uncle Fester? Lurch? Cousin Itt?), but since there’s no premiere date yet (possibly Halloween 2022?), it could mean they’re still looking for roles to fill.
Wednesday will be an eight-episode series and was described as a “supernaturally infused mystery” that will follow Wednesday Addam’s years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Plot points include trying to master her emerging psychic ability, stop a killing spree, and help her parents solve a supernatural mystery that has followed her parents for the past 25 years. You know, just the life of an Addams family teenager.
Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) created Wednesday and are acting as showrunners and executive producers. Tim Burton is going to direct and executive produce. Other executive producers are Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman of 1.21, Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman of Glickmania, and Gail Berman.
To end, I’ll leave you with one of my favorite Wednesday Addams scenes:
