It’s finally here! Recently, Paramount dropped the trailer for their new series, 1923. The series is, in fact, a spinoff from another hugely successful series – Yellowstone. Like the parent show, Taylor Sheridan is both the creator and executive producer of the series. However, the 1923 TV show will be a limited series, unlike the parent show. As such, this means that you shouldn’t expect a ton of episodes. Instead, there will only be two seasons of this show, each featuring eight episodes. Additionally, the show works as a prequel to the parent show. While Yellowstone takes place in the present day, 1923, as you might’ve guessed, shows the Dutton family dealing with the ranch in the 1920s.

Naturally, there are a whole wealth of new (or should that be old?) problems for the Duttons to solve. Some of these include Prohibition laws, Western Expansion – and, of course, the Great Depression. In particular, the Great Depression hit Montana ten years before the show starts. Since this is where the show is set, we can expect a lot of issues to plague the Dutton family.

For the 1923 TV show, Paramount hasn’t held back from hiring a star-studded cast. In the role of the matriarch Cara Dutton, we have Helen Mirren. Harrison Ford plays her husband, Jacob, who is also the patriarch of the family’s ranch. In addition, Sebastian Roché plays Father Renaud, the headmaster of the Native American school, while Darren Mann is Jack, Cara’s and Jacob’s son. There are plenty of other important cast members, such as Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, and many others. It’s stacked up to be quite the series! You can check out the trailer below.

In the 1923 TV show trailer, we see Cara talk about the violence the Duttons have to deal with. However, she’s not willing to give up easily. In fact, she states, “Men kill quick with a bullet or a noose. But their fight is with me, and I kill much slower.” That’s one brave character!

Of course, since the show occurred several decades before Yellowstone, we shouldn’t expect any characters to appear. In the mainline show, Kevin Costner plays the lead role of John Dutton III. However, he was born almost thirty years after the 1923 TV show, so he certainly won’t appear!

Additionally, this show isn’t the only new addition to the Yellowstone franchise. In fact, Paramount finished airing the limited series 1883 earlier this year. In this show, we saw the Dutton family arrive in Yellowstone and how they managed to own land. Later, this land became the famous Yellowstone ranch. However, since this was also a limited series, it only had a single season of ten episodes. Essentially, 1923 will be a sequel to this show, as it occurs 40 years after. It’ll also be a prequel to Yellowstone!

Regarding the crew, the father and son duo John and Art Linson will be executive producers. David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and Ben Richardson will join them here. 101 Studios, Bosque Ranch Productions, and MTV Entertainment are the production companies behind the 1923 TV show. Previously, they filmed the show in several locations. Naturally, this included various spots in Montana, such as Whitehall, Deer Lodge, Hamilton, Pony, Park City, and Valier. Additionally, Paramount filmed some scenes in Europe and Africa, too.

Yellowstone Spinoff Release Date

Paramount will air the first episode of the 1923 TV show on December 18th in Canada and the United States. This will be on the streaming service Paramount+ and Paramount Network. If that wasn’t enough, the network is also debuting episode 7 of Yellowstone’s fifth season. It’s going to be quite the experience!

Also, it seems that creator Sheridan has several more ideas for the Western franchise. Another spinoff includes 6666, which is pronounced as “four sixes.” Currently, we don’t know much about this spinoff. However, it will be about the 6666 Ranch in Texas, which is the ninth biggest one in the state. There’s no release date at the moment for this series.
