Henry Cavill Could Be The Next James Bond

Henry Cavill was one of the candidates to play the next James Bond. The actor lost the role for being too young, but now he has a chance again.

The next saga of the James Bond franchise is still in doubt after the last film with Daniel Craig. The filming of No Time To Die in 2021 showed how agent 007 died at the end of the mission, implying that this new film would be a new reboot of the saga.

As for the new actor who will play the British spy, names such as Tom Hardy, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Richard Madden, and Henry Cavill continue to be mentioned. He had sounded for the 2021 film and was even considered the first choice for the role.

The producers previously commented on what profile they were looking for, stating that they wanted a veteran actor. They preferred him to be between 30 and 40 years old to denote the spy’s experience from his involvement in the cold war. This profile leaves Cavill well positioned, as he meets these initial requirements.

Henry Cavill commented on the possibility of being nominated for the role of James Bonds. He said he was interested in the role, even though his current situation is somewhat compromised with characters like Superman. In fact, because of these occupations, he left his leading role in the Netflix series, The Witcher.

Henry Cavill is excited about the possibility of being chosen as the next James Bond, as shown in an interview with the podcast Happy Sad Confused with host Josh Horowitz. In it, he stated that he is still interested in portraying agent 007 despite all the demand for work he has and even more with the new sequel in the production of Superman.

Cavill commented on the podcast as follows, “Yeah. I’m quite busy now. I love those guys, Barbara and Mike . … Whether I’m considered for the role or not, I don’t know. But it’d be fun to have the conversation, for sure. And if I’m not, I just want to see what they do with it next because I think they’re amazing”.

For Henry Cavill, it’s an opportunity worth looking into, and that’s why he would like to sit down with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the main producers of this James Bond franchise. He also commented on his first opportunity in 2000 and that he got along very well with them, despite not being chosen in the end.

Cavill admitted that his time is currently very limited, as he has a considerable workload. He is still in The Witcher series until the end of the third season, after which Liam Hemsworth will replace him. 

The role is still in the air, with the franchise’s producers looking for options. While Cavill may be in the role and meets the age requirements, his profile could work against him. Especially considering the roles he performed and how opposite they are to Agent 007.

Henry Cavill’s career got a boost in 2013 with his portrayal of Superman in the Man of Steel movie. It seems ironic that such fame could lower his chances of playing Agent 007 and that he does not rank high among the candidates for the role.

The characters that the actor played are mostly recognized are from science fiction. Not only Superman but also his character of Geralt of Rivia’s sorcerer enter that context. This role suggests that the current profile Cavil has does not fit the character the producers want.

Broccoli and Wilson commented that they were looking for a person who could play the character of a veteran spy. They also said that the actor should be of an advanced age so that his look would match James Bond’s mentality. On this point, Cavill has a point in his favor as he has the physical bearing on playing the role.

Another point that may affect Cavill’s candidacy to play the role of Agent 007 is his available time. Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson commented that they were looking for an actor who would be available for the next 10 years. With the responsibility that the actor has with DC in the character of Superman, it is doubtful that he can count on this responsibility. 

For the time being, the character is still open, and the producers are still looking for options to play him. The movie still has no production date, much less a release date, with all the franchise fans waiting in anticipation.
