Hailee Steinfeld Is Open To A Spider-Gwen Live-Action Movie
The movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, starring Miles Morales, is sweeping the box office. However, he is not the only character who got a breakthrough in his story as an arachnid. In the plot, we could see many versions of Spider-Man, such as the character of Spider-Gwen, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld.
The actress gave very interesting statements in an interview for The Hollywood Reporter. She talked about the details of the making off, such as aspects of capturing the voices and how working together, they had better results. However, the statements that struck us the most relate to the actress’s interest in bringing the character to life in live action.

Actress Hailee Steinfeld commented to THR about her experience playing Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen so far. She pointed out that she liked her character’s participation in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse much more since more details of her past are revealed, and her story builds up more in-depth.
The character of Gwen Stacy has much more importance and is the one who masterfully opens the film. This character is responsible for recapping the events of the first film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Hailee Steinfeld, who plays Spider-Gwen, commented that she was unaware of this relevance until she could see the film. She said that during the recording of the voices, she was not given the full script but only the dialogues she would have to perform.
Steinfeld indicated that she was able to see the full script days before the release of this film. This caused her surprise and, at the same time, joy for all the participants that her character would have and all that the public would know about her. Part of the statements of the actress were the following:
“I was never given a script in its entirety. Seeing just a few weeks ago was like reading the script for the first time. So, realizing that this film does open with a lot of Gwen’s story was really special to see. We dug a little deeper into who she is and why she is the way she is, and it’s a big evolution from where she was in the first one. I’ve always loved this character, but I love her so much more in this film from what we learn about her.”.
This Sony strategy is an excellent measure to avoid spoilers. Actors give a lot of interviews, and sometimes it is impossible not to miss something.
Possibility of a Gwen Stacy Live-Action Spin-Off
During the interview, the actress dropped a tidbit of information that could become very relevant. When THR asked Hailee Steinfeld if she would like to do a live-action Spider-Gwen, the actress responded flatly. “Yes! (Laughs.)”.
Another interesting fact that the actress provided was whether she would change her style to do the live-action or if she would do it the same as with the animation, to which she replied:
“With everything that’s going on and all the different animation styles and the music being such a huge part and the score being so moving, all I had to do was feel as real in the material as possible. So, would I deliver the lines differently in live-action? That’s such an interesting thing. I imagine if they’re coming from the same place, it would feel similar, but with some physicality added in there, it would inherently be different.”
Is there a chance of seeing Hailee Steinfeld playing Spider-Gwen in a live-action? Yes. Given the current context of Sony’s Spider-Verse, such a production has a place. Several confirmed films exist, such as Kraven the Hunter or Madame Web. For this reason, it is not unreasonable to think of introducing such an interesting character within this universe.
Considering this context and Hailee Steinfeld’s qualities as an actress, there are high possibilities of seeing Spider-Gwen in live action. However, it would not be so soon because when asked about the work for the next movie, the actress commented that she is taking a break. The reason is that this production had a lot of work demand for her and the rest of the team.
Steinfeld stated that she is happy with the character and likes the idea. Besides, the actress has already played a character in Hawkeye’s MCU series, Kate Bishop.
