According to reports, a new trilogy may begin with Disney’s upcoming Planet of the Apes film. Rupert Wyatt initially directed the first movie before Matt Reeves took over, and 20th Century Fox had great success revitalizing the Planet of the Apes franchise in the 2010s. The trilogy, which starred Andy Serkis as Caesar, received high praise for its plot and innovative special effects. Disney, which acquired 20th Century in 2019, took action to maintain the IP after the trilogy earned over $1.6 billion in total. This included bringing the script for the upcoming Planet of the Apes movie forward.

According to reports, Disney is happy with the script for the upcoming Planet of the Apes movie and is looking for a lead actor.
Disney finished acquiring 20th Century Fox in early 2019, bringing with it a number of well-known intellectual properties. In addition to Planet of the Apes and Alien, Fox also owned the cinematic rights to Marvel. The company made it apparent that it wanted to carry on the Alien and Apes franchises after the signing of the contract. Sadly, the Covid-19 epidemic delayed both of them. Matt Reeves helmed the original trilogy before delving to The Batman.

The Planet of the Apes Movie May Continue the Current Mythos

Instead of a complete reboot, the upcoming movie is anticipated to continue the recent Planet of the Apes mythology. After scrapping its Mouse Guard adaptation, Disney gave the franchise to Wes Ball, the filmmaker of the Maze Runner series. Planet of the Apes 4 received some encouraging updates at the start of 2022. This came after Ball spent the previous few years working on the film. The president of 20th Century said that shooting hopefully starts this summer or fall after the screenplay was ready.

Disney started working on the next Planet of the Apes movie gradually as time went on. Wes Ball, the filmmaker of Maze Runner, led the effort. The project was finalizing a draft in March with plans to start production by the end of the summer.  It might also be the beginning of the following fall. The Disney executives now seem to be in favor of the script.

The executives at 20th Century and Disney were reportedly quite pleased with the script for the upcoming Planet of the Apes movie, according to senior film reporter Justin Kroll of Deadline. Additionally, it stated that they would shortly start looking for the film’s protagonist and that they hoped it would result in a full trilogy of movies.

Disney and 20th Century Take The Reigns of the Respected Franchise

More information regarding the Disney film adaptation of Planet of the Apes has just surfaced. Ball is officially no longer associated with Paramount’s Harbinger film. This is because of his responsibilities for Planet of the Apes 4, according to Deadline reporter Justin Kroll. Based on a source from Kroll, Disney and 20th Century are in the casting stage of the most current script. They have great expectations for it. His tweet stated that Disney is seeking a candidate who could “hopefully lead future chapters of a new trilogy of films” at this point.

Synopsis for the third movie of the first trilogy states: “In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes go into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel go against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.”
