There never seems to be a lack of comic book content these days. And with Netflix joining the fray with their own original superhero show Jupiter’s Legacy, I don’t think they’re going away anytime soon. And now, entering a brand new animated arena is Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible series. I absolutely loved the show, as I discussed in my spoiler-free review of Invincible season 1. But today, I’m joined by ComicYears.com’s Managing Editor, Joshua M. Patton for a more detailed and spoiler-filled discussion. So check out this episode of the Comic Years Podcast for the Invincible season 1 spoiler podcast.

Invincible is a new kind of series when compared to the others out there. While many shows in the genre are going live-action, like The Boys, Invincible went a totally different way into pure animation. This allowed the show to do a lot of extra things like violence and gore and explicit graphic content. But at the end of the day, both Joshua and I agree that the heartfelt relationships in the series serve as the foundation that makes everything else much better. Joshua even points out how certain relationships and storylines of certain characters, differ hugely from the comic book series.

How The Series Differs From The Comic Books

In this episode of the Comic Years Podcast, Joshua discusses the many ways that the series differs from the comic books. And surprisingly, for the better, according to Joshua. We also compare how being aware of the comics, like Joshua, or coming in fresh, like myself, impacts the enjoyment of the series. Now, while the series is definitely not for all ages, the violent content may be approachable for some younger viewers. But it’s totally at the parents’ discretion. The episode ends with two writers discussing some parenting topics as well. They both marvel at the discrepancy between the show’s adult content, and animated aesthetic.
