The Comic Years Podcast: Daredevil Season 1 Retrospective
Spider-Man: No Way Home is fast becoming the event movie of the year. Along with the multiverse opening up and villains from previous franchises reappearing, there are many rumors for the movie as well. While the biggest is the potential appearance of the previous two other Spider-Mans in this movie, there’s a much smaller one around Charlie Cox’s Daredevil appearing in the same movie as well. Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige recently confirmed that if any Daredevil was to appear in the MCU, it would be Charlie Cox. So it’s appropriate that our own Managing Editor, Joshua M. Patton revisits the iconic TV series in this Daredevil season 1 podcast episode of the Comic Years Podcast.
Please note: this Daredevil season 1 podcast may feature some spoilers about the Netflix original series.

Even before shows like WandaVision, Loki, The Falcon And The Winter Solider and What If…?, the first-ever Marvel series on streaming was Daredevil. We’re not counting Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. since that was on network television on ABC. And yes, it makes a difference. Daredevil season 1 was hailed for its first depiction of a gritty series loosely set in the, thus far, kid-friendly MCU. It’s never before seen, mature take on a dark character was beloved by fans and critics alike. And even now years later, Daredevil season 1 was unquestionably one of the best superhero shows of all time.
Unfortunately, the mini-Avengers-like Netflix series experiment didn’t pan out, due to the poor reception of the other shows. While Jessica Jones and Luke Cage were great, Iron Fist and the culmination in The Defenders was less than great. And I’m being generous with Iron Fist there. But fans of those iterations of Marvel Comics characters have hope, as Charlie Cox’s version of the character will return in the MCU. Maybe even as early as in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Daredevil Season 1 Podcast Looks Back at the Show
Joshua does a great job during this Daredevil season 1 podcast at breaking down what the show meant to Marvel’s larger slate of content. He’s also able to discuss what stood out about the series and why it was and has remained, such a memorable part of all the Marvel adaptations. With this version of Daredevil possibly becoming an addition to the current MCU as we know it, Daredevil might be an important show to catch up on. You know, for context.
