The Comic Years Podcast: 2021 Oscars Picks And Predictions
The Oscars are the annual event that celebrates the best movies of the industry in any given year. Or rather, that’s the intended purpose, anyways. However, every year, the Academy Awards falter when it comes to the choice of movies, representation, or some other oversight in their selections. In the last few years, the event had created controversy for its lack of representation when it came to minority films and filmmakers. However, this year the choice of nominations is very diverse and features many unprecedented firsts. So check out our 2021 Oscars predictions podcast, as we discuss how the nominees of this year stack up.

I’m joined on this episode of the Comic Years Podcast by our feature writers Meghan Hale and Emily O’Donnell. We begin the show by discussing how this year’s Oscars compares against the previous years’. The 2021 Oscars definitely have a lot more representation when it comes to the acting categories, as well as the Best Picture and Directing categories. This year sees the first-ever Muslim and Asian nominees in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category, with Riz Ahmed and Steven Yeun, respectively. There are also nominees for Best Picture with two female directors, and many women-centric stories also leading the pack.
Our Guests Break Down Their 2021 Oscars Predictions
It’s surprising how much we all seemed to love Promising Young Woman. The movie received nominations in all the major categories. However, all of us are in agreement that it deserves more acclaim than it’s getting. Meghan drops the mic when it comes to the Actress categories, with some potentially unpopular opinions about who should win, but also backing it up with some great points. Emily points out why Nomadland may not be the odds on favorite, despite our love for Chloe Zhao. Once again, the ComicYears.com team is in agreement about which movie that’s part of the Best Picture race is not deserving of winning at all. Despite being potentially the type of movie that the Academy usually rewards.
So check out our 2021 Oscars predictions podcast as we have a deep dive on who should win and why. Take a look at our reviews of Wolfwalkers, Nomadland and Over The Moon to get caught up on those movies that we discussed on this episode of the Comic Years Podcast.
