Image via screengrabAdventure Thru the Walt Disney Archives, which will be hosted by legendary producer Don Hahn (The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast), is going to be a tour of “rarely seen areas of the department’s vast collections along with beloved Disney locations through an engaging, historical lens.” It will include items such as Mary Poppin’s outfit and carousel horse, props from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, an opulent-looking Sleeping Beauty spellbook, and even a rare Mickey Mouse plush doll. The documentary will also include interviews with important people from Disney’s history, including Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, Pixar’s Pete Docter, and Star Wars icon Mark Hamill.
A History of the Walt Disney Archives
The archives were founded in June 1970 by Disney archivist Dave Smith as a way to “collect, preserve and make available for research the historical materials relating to Walt and the company he founded.” Since Disney’s founding in 1923, the archives have collected millions of items from across the Mouse House’s vast history in film, TV, their ever expanding theme parks, and merchandise, so seeing Adventure Thru the Walt Disney Archives is sure to be a treat. If you want to learn more about the Disney archives, check out the D23 website.
