As if we weren’t already bummed out about the other recent string of movie delays, the upcoming Venom sequel has also been pushed back. However, this time it comes with a small glimmer of excitement. In addition to the change in the Venom sequel release date, Sony has also given us a new title! Venom: Let There Be Carnage will now release on June 25th, 2021.

Venom Sequel Has A New Release Date

The sequel to 2018’s Venom has been eagerly awaited by fans. The first film surprised audiences with a refreshing adaptation of the character, who had last appeared in Spider-Man 3 to mixed reactions. While critic reviews varied and were largely negative, the film was still a crowd pleaser and was a massive box office success, bringing in more than $856 million.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage was originally slated for an October 2nd, 2020 release. The new release date is likely a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Most of the plot details have been kept under wraps, but the new film will see Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom (Tom Hardy) go up against  Cletus Kasady as Carnage (Woody Harrelson), another symbiote host. Tom Hardy has previously confirmed that his contract will extend to a third film.

Will Venom: Let There Be Carnage Be As Cool As Its Name?

Carnage was teased as becoming the next villain during Venom‘s post-credit scene. The character was originally introduced in edition 344 of The Amazing Spider-Man back in 1991. Carnage is an offspring of Venom and is another symbiote. However, this one is far more aggressive and bonds with Cletus, a notorious serial killer. Their bonding can only mean chaos for Eddie Brock.

While it’s frustrating to hear of another film delay, we’re excited that the new Venom sequel has a new release date and an exciting name. With Andy Serkis as the director, Venom 2 may just be worth the wait.

So, what are you expecting from Venom: Let There Be Carnage? Let us know your hopes for the film, and your expectations for Carnage!
