The Firestarter Remake First Image Is Here, And It’s Literally On Fire

Last year we talked about how there was going to be a Firestarter adaptation starring Zac Efron. Then earlier this month, Stephen King sent love to the Firestarter crew via a tweeted Elvis Presley lyric. Well folks, things are moving along because now we have a Firestarter remake first image from the set and it is literally fire. As in, someone is on fire.

Blumhouse Productions tweeted behind-the-scenes footage of a pyrotechnic stunt, along with a message announcing that the first day of production has begun.

Firestarter is a remake of the 1984 movie and follows Andy McGee, a man whose daughter is pursued by a secret government agency after she develops pyrokinetic abilities. The original film was directed by Mark L. Lester and starred David Keith, a baby-faced Drew Barrymore, George C. Scott, and Heather Locklear.

Keith Thomas is directing and the script was adapted from King’s 1980 novel by Scott Teems, who co-wrote Blumhouse’s upcoming Halloween Kills. Blumhouse’s Jason Blum is producing, alongside Oscar-winner Akiva Goldsman and his Weed Road banner. Blum and Goldsman previously worked on the Paranormal Activity franchise together, as well as 2017’s Stephanie. Martha De Laurentiis, having served as an associate producer on the 1984 version of the film, will executive produce, alongside Teems.

Even though production has officially started on the film, there still seems to be a lot of roles to fill. According to IMDb, the only major roles that are filled are for Andy McGee (Zac Efron) and Rainbird (Michael Greyeyes). No word yet on Charlie McGee or Victoria McGee. Given the talent behind the camera though, we can only expect the cast to be just as great.

Firestarter does not have a release date yet.
