Suicide Squad Ayer Cut Will Be Released! According To James Gunn

James Gunn commented that David Ayer’s version of Suicide Squad, the so-called Ayer cut, will have its broadcast moment. The filmmaker and DC Studios director commented that this movie version will have green light at some point, although he did not say when it would be. This left fans eager to know this alternative story to the one presented in 2016.

The director indicated that people tend to make fun of the film because of the time the director’s cut version never saw the light. However, he indicated that fans are clamoring for this version of Suicide Squad that, without even having seen it on the big screen, is already famous. The DC Studios director said it is time to share it with the world in his new DC storyline.

James Gunn Comments on Ayer’s Possible Release Cut Suicide Squad

In a David Ayer X post, the director informed that James Gunn commented on the possible release of his version of the Suicide Squad movie, also called the Ayer Cut. In it, the post he asked the DC Studio co-director if it made sense to release this version 7 years after the release of the official cut. The DC Studios director responded that “it would have its time to be shared”. He also pointed out that many make fun of this production, claiming it didn’t exist.

In the past, Gunn stated that he thinks the film provokes fan interest which would cause its broadcast to have a much better outcome than a scheduled big-screen release. He added that it’s time for the public to know his side of the story. The interview went on like this:

“What’s your advice on how to navigate this situation with grace? There’s a genuine curiosity and interest from a lot of people. And I’m aware there is another group of people that have fun mocking the film. Your comment is a perfect example of how many are magnetically drawn to the 2016 film in a negative way. Have you ever had an experience in life that didn’t until the way you wanted, that dragged you, that made you rethink everything? I have.”

Gunn then replied: “The interest in my cut being shown seems real and organic. And Gunn told me it would have it’s time to be shared. He absolutely deserves to launch to launch his DC universe without more drama about old projects. In a way, I’m chained to this thing. I’m riding a tiger here and navigating this situation the best I can. Life is a very strange journey.

Gunn talks about the Differences Between the Versions

David Ayer commented on the movie released in 2016 and indicated that this version of Suicide Squad is the interviewer’s least favorite. Faced with that comment, Gunn stated that his cut of that film is very different from the one they presented in the theaters.

He indicated that his work is based on the works of John Gilroy and with the best effects of Lee Smith. He also indicated that many of the criticisms the 2016 production received are absent in his edition. On this, they both began the following:

“I put my life into ‘Suicide Squad.’ I made something amazing… The studio cut is not my movie. Read that again. And my cut is not the 10-week director’s cut – It’s a fully mature edit by Lee Smith standing on the incredible work by John Gilroy. It’s all Steven Price’s brilliant score, with not a single radio song in the whole thing. It has traditional character arcs, amazing performances, a solid third act resolution. A handful of people have seen it. If someone says they have seen it, they haven’t”.

Strong Fan Support for the Ayer Cut

The Ayer Cut is a movement linked to “Release the Snyder’s Cut”. This Twitter movement culminated in the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2021. After this achievement, fans went further, asking to see David Ayer’s version as well. Fans asked for the same to happen with the director’s version of Suicide Squad, called the Ayer cut on the internet. 

James Gunn commented that the film developed by the DC Studio co-director is simply brilliant. This was not the only one, as one of its stars, Will Smith, indicated that it is great and urged the director to persist in its release. About this, the actor indicated:

“Let me tell you, there’s a whole lot that stayed on the floor for ‘Suicide Squad. I’m into it. I love that world, in both versions. I absolutely would love to .”.

This statement finally gives hope that we will see the Ayer cut Suicide Squad. It will most likely be in-home format, but it’s still good news for DC fans.
