When Warner Bros. announced that they were changing up their release schedule, filmgoers weren’t exactly expecting good news. That wasn’t the case with the Shazam 2 Fury of the Gods release date, which has been moved up several months. While fans of the original will be pleased, they’re not the only ones who welcomed the news. Director David F. Sandberg has expressed his joy with the change. Taking to Twitter, he also compared the film’s updated schedule to the original movie. With the comparison, he notes that there’s a certain irony between both films.

Shazam 2 Fury of the Gods Release Date Moved Up

While not much is known about the film, it’s been noted that the Shazam 2 release date has been moved up by several months. It comes as Warner Bros. announces a change in its content lineup. That’s meant that multiple other films have been affected by the change.

Aquaman 2, Black Adam, Jurassic Park: The Lost Kingdom, and The Flash were also affected by the move. That hasn’t meant that filmgoers will be disappointed with Shazam 2! Fury of the Gods’ change. Instead, the movie has been pushed forward to December 2022, bringing it closer to release.

While not much is known about the film, actor Zachary Levi claims that it’s better than the original. Speaking in an interview, he says:

“I will say that I genuinely — and this is not just lip service — I’m really proud of the first one, I think we made a really, really good movie,” the actor began.” I think the second one is better. I think that we had more time, we had more budget…. We had, essentially, the entire cast returning, and we all knew our characters a little bit more; we could kind of sit into them a little bit more. Henry Gayden, who wrote the first script, wrote the second, and he did a fantastic job doing so. Everything just clicked even a little bit more and a little bit more.”

Speaking about the Shazam 2 release date change, David F. Sandberg notes that there’s a certain irony to the film being released in December. As he notes on Twitter:

“It’s funny how Shazam 1 was a Christmas movie released in April and Shazam 2 is a summer movie getting released at Christmas. It’s the Shazam way.”

He also notes, however, that the movie will see an extensive amount of competition during the holiday season. Perhaps the most notable film it’ll be up against is Avatar 2, the long-awaited sequel to the James Cameron-directed original. He also quipped that Cameron “must be shaking in his boots,” although that was likely a tongue-in-cheek comment.

Shazam 2 Fury of the Gods Releases December 16, 2022

With the Shazam 2 release date being changed, it now comes out on December 16, 2022. Other films set to be released by Warner Bros. have been postponed into 2023.
