Shawn Levy Deadpool 3 Director Gives His Take On Release Date
Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool 3, has completed filming and editing half of the sequel, in which Ryan Reynolds reprises his role as the fourth-wall-breaking antihero. However, due to the continuing SAG-AFTRA strike, which began on July 14, Levy cannot confirm whether the film will be released as scheduled on May 3, 2024. During an interview with a renowned media to promote his upcoming Netflix limited series, All the Light We Cannot See, Levy expressed his uncertainty surrounding Deadpool 3.
When questioned about his presence at a recent matchup between the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, which he attended alongside Ryan Reynolds, Levy opted not to confirm or deny rumors about the possible involvement of Taylor Swift. The actress and singer was also in attendance, as Dazzler in the third installment.

In an interview with TheWrap, Shawn Levy gave an insight into Deadpool 3 release date.
“I wish I knew. We don’t even know if we officially have . I know we were gonna be May 3,” Levy said of the superhero sequel, which stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. “Certainly, the actors’ strike and the long pause in production have put that release date in true risk. We’ve shot half the movie. I’ve edited half the movie. We’re dying to get back to work and get this movie out next year.”
Swift, a close friend of Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, appears to have assembled an all-star cast that includes Jackman, Reynolds, Lively, Levy, and others such as Sabrina Carpenter and Sophie Turner for the soccer game. The singer has been seen publicly holding hands with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, which may have been the catalyst that made this meeting a reality, as Kelce mentioned that he was unable to give Swift a bracelet with his number on it during one of her “Eras” tour concerts.
“I can say that we are hoping to start filming as soon as possible. We really need the actor’s strike resolved first. The Duffers have been hard at work since the writer strike ended,” he said. We’re busy on many fronts because we also have our ‘Stranger Things’ play opening in London imminently. It’s fabulous. It’s f–king awesome.”
“It has exceeded all our expectations. We’re very excited to share that with the world,” Shawn Levy said about Deadpool 3. “We are raring to go — our cast, our crew. Everyone not only needs to get back to work because we have many hundreds of crew members who have not been able to make a living since the strikes began, but we will be shooting very shortly after the actor’s strike ends.”
