Venom fans got their first, long-awaited look at the man who would be Carnage in action today. A set video showing Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady hit the internet. Much of the focus on Venom 2 has been on the reports that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man might make an appearance. Since Sony and Disney reached a deal to keep Spider-Man in the MCU, we’ve been told to expect Spidey (though not Tom Holland) to cross universes. Though, Michael Keaton’s appeared as Adrian Toomes in the Morbius trailer. It seems that Sony’s universe of Marvel characters will, at least, be adjacent to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

All of this is exciting and has fans wondering how the new Disney and Sony partnership will shape up for films beyond the two Marvel Studios films in development. There will be the third Spider-Man film in 2021 and an appearance by Tom Holland’s Spidey in a future Marvel team-up film. With all this focus on the larger universe, fans seem to forget that one of Marvel’s most fearsome villains is set to make his on-screen debut. Woody Harrelson will be Cletus Kasady, and thanks to the new set video, we get to see him in action. Well, kind of.

Why the Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady Set Video Is Not a Surprise

Tom Hardy, who plays Eddie Brock, is known for sharing images to his Instagram and then deleting them after a time. Honestly, this is smart. It gets us talking about them, especially because fans believe that Sony or Marvel makes him delete the photos. Thus the above image offering our first look at Harrelson’s Kasady was a clue that something would be coming. Often, studios and storytellers will offer up a first look at a character in advance of a location shoot. They know fans and their cameras will be around. So, the below set video of Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady is not entirely unexpected.

In the video, Harrelson is seen standing at the rear of a flashy red convertible. Dressed in the same outfit from the deleted Hardy picture, we are seeing one half (maybe a third?) of an action scene. An unidentified actor holds Kasady at gunpoint. “Put your hands behind your head,” he shouts. Then, Harrelson extends his arms and seems to wiggle his fingers. Then he, just, kind of stands there as the cop empties the magazine. Naturally, there will be some sort of CGI symbiote effect that prevents the Zombieland: Double Tap star from being shot down.
