Scream 5 Trailer: SIDNEY, I LOVE YOU
I have made no secret of the fact that I consider Sidney Prescott to be the ne plus ultra of final girls. I mean, when the news officially broke that Neve Campbell joined Scream 5, I said exactly that, just in other words. Because while I think the Scream franchise has produced both good and good…ish movies over the years, one thing hasn’t changed. Sidney Prescott is a goshdarn queen. No matter how many ding-dongs out there try to kill her, instead of, you know, touching some grass, she doesn’t let it get her down. We know and she should know by now that she’s going to end the movie by standing over the killer’s body and quipping them to death. So yeah, when the Scream 5 trailer dropped, I prepared for myself for the plot or whatever. But mostly, I just wanted to see her.
So What Does the Scream 5 Trailer Tell Us?
Well, first of all, it’s just Scream, not Scream 5. It’s going to take me some time to accept that, though, so bear with me. Anyway, they’re calling it that because it’s a sequel to part 4, but they also intend it to be kind of a reboot to the series. Sure, great, I say while backing away. So a requel. A seboot. As such, and I know y’all are going to find this hard to believe, but it’s about a masked killer stalking a bunch of youths. Shocking, right? Let’s go to the press release:
Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.
But you know these Ghostface-come-latelies. They may have some sort of grand agenda, but there’s always one major obstacle in their way. They can resist anything but effing with Sidney Prescott. Oh Lordy, do they love to come for her. I mean, I get it–if you’re a homicidally-inclined wretch with designs on the Ghostface legend, then you’d absolutely want to be the one to (finally) finish off Sidney. But you ain’t gon be.
Fifth Film Sees Return of Original Cast and a Lot of New Players
Along with Campbell, fellow original cast members Courteney Cox and David Arquette will also be returning. In addition, Marley Shelton, whose cop character Judy Hicks survived Scream 4, will be onboard for this one. Newcomers to the franchise include Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Dylan Minnette, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sonia Ben Ammar, Mikey Madison, Mason Gooding, Kyle Gallner, and of course, Jack Quaid.
“I’m Sidney Prescott. Of course I have a gun.” EVERYONE, SHUT UP AND DO NOT LOOK AT ME.
Scream (5) will be in theaters January 14, 2022.
