The Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts news just keeps on coming! We recently got confirmation that the new live-action Transformers movie will feature a version of the popular Beast Wars animated series from the 90s. With the two main leads already finalized, a new report now confirms another big casting for the new movie. The Optimus Primal voice actor is Ron Perlman, who joins the voice actor of the original Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen, in the new movie. With another key piece of the puzzle in place, it looks like Rise Of The Beasts is going full steam ahead, and that’s just plain exciting!

Ron Perlman Is A Genre Favourite

If the name of the Optimus Primal voice actor Ron Perlman sounds familiar, then you’d be absolutely correct. In many ways, Perlman is very well known in genre circles. Perlman’s biggest claim to fame is portraying Hellboy in the first two live-action adaptations from Guillermo Del Toro. Casual audiences will also recognize him from his roles in Blade II, Pacific Rim, and many other genre favorites.

The new report came from Collider, confirming Perlman’s casting. Coincidentally, the original voice for Optimus Primal in the Beast Wars animated series was actually Garry Chalk. But Ron Perlman was the Optimus Primal voice actor in the animated series Transformers: Power Of The Primes. So it’s actually a return to the character for Perlman, only this time, in a live-action version. Well, still CGI laid atop a live-action setting, but different nonetheless.

The new Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts movie cast looks like it’s rounding out. Perlman will join the new leads of Anthony Ramos (In The Heights) and Dominique Fishback (Project Power), but I feel like it’s not going to be the last casting announcement we get from this new movie. As is the case with most Transformers movies, we can expect a lot more big and small casting announcements in the coming weeks.

The character itself is the namesake of the original Optimus Prime, but a descendant of the Autobots. Primal leads the Maximals in the Beast Wars series and might be doing the same in the live-action movie. However, how it all works out is still a mystery. The new movie is set in the 90s, which means it could possibly even be a sequel to 2018’s Bumblebee since that was set in the 80s. It’s a time travel story where both Optimus-es will meet in a story that somehow, will see them together. Stay tuned to this space as we learn more about Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts.

Rise Of The Beasts will release in theatres on June 22, 2022.
