Morbius Same Universe As Venom And Who Is His Spider-Man In The Movie?

We’re just days away from one of the most-delayed Marvel movies in history. Morbius will hit theaters on April 1, and we will see another Sony Marvel character come to life in a solo film. However, maybe Morbius won’t be as solo a hero as some might think. In a new interview on Twitter of all places, director Daniel Espinosa answered questions about the Spider-Verse. The most important bit of news is that Morbius reportedly takes place in the same universe as Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Espinosa also said that there is indeed a Spider-Man in this corner of the multiverse, and we’ll know who it is soon. In the past, we’ve speculated that it will be Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man who will be the one in the Morbius movie, possibly leading to Amazing Spider-Man 3. Let’s find out about Morbius, Venom, and Spider-Man!

Even more interesting in this interview is what Daniel Espinosa said about Michael Keaton, who is reprising his role as Adrian Toomes. I speculated that he would just be this corner of the multiverse’s Vulture. Yet, Espinosa says that he is the “same character” as the one that was in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

He said:

“At the end of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home, and in No Way Home itself, it is clearly established that it is possible for characters to transfer from one Multiverse to another. The events of No Way Home had the effect of transferring Venom and Vulture (and maybe others) back and forth between the MCU and the Venom Universe.”

This is interesting on a number of levels, and we’ll explain why below. Still, we now know that not only will Morbius have a Spider-Man, but it is also in the same universe as Venom, and MCU characters can hop back-and-forth.

Why the Morbius Universe Matters and Who Is Spider-Man in His Movie

When Sony and Disney settled their beef and brought Spider-Man back to the MCU, things were different. Kevin Feige, the guru of the MCU himself, said that Spider-Man had the unique power to hop between universes. This leads us to believe that Tom Holland will be the Spider-Man of the Morbius movie, especially since they made a point to have Tom Hardy’s Venom hop universes to become aware of him. And with Across the Spider-Verse Part 1 coming up, it’s very possible that Tom Holland’s Spidey gets sucked into the multiverse and meets up with Hailee Steinfeld’s Ghost Spider and Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales.

And if Adrian Toomes is hopping universes, too, that makes a Tom Holland Spider-Man much more likely. Of course, we’re well aware that Morbius has a Spider-Man already, as we’ve seen in the trailer and set photos, images suggesting Spider-Man is wanted for murder. This, to me, points towards Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, especially after he told Tom Holland’s Spidey that he “stopped pulling” his “punches.” Also, since Sony’s Spider-Verse has been on hold due to the MCU successes, two Spider-Men could solve that problem. Tom Holland could web-head around in the MCU, while Andrew Garfield serves the Sony corner of the multiverse.

Lastly, it does seem that we are leading up to a Sinister Six film, which has been Sony’s goal since the ill-fated The Amazing Spider-Man 2. If Morbius and Venom are in the same universe with the Vulture (who at some point makes a new suit) than they are halfway there to a movie where Sinister Six faces off with “a” Spider-Man.

See Morbius in the same universe as Venom, debut in theaters on April 1.

What do you think? Do you like the Morbius is in the same universe as Venom, and who do you think their Spider-Man will be? Is this one of your most anticipated comic book movies of 2022? Tell us your thoughts, theories, and hopes in the comments below.
