Joker 2’s First Teaser Released Online And Cast Member Reacts To Its New Genre
Todd Phillips’ Joker 2’s first teaser finally dropped, showing us a first look at the upcoming sequel. Meanwhile, a former cast member shares her thoughts about the movie’s new genre.
Joker 2’s first teaser dropped online
Earlier this year, director Todd Phillips teased us with a working title for the upcoming sequel of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker. The working title reads Joker: Folie à Deux, which translates to “delusion of two people.” Fans were quick to comment that the working title hints at Harley Quinn’s introduction to the film. And low and behold, Joker 2‘s first teaser gives us our first glimpse of Harley Quinn in the sequel.
Who would play Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoneix’s Joker? It’s no other than the pop icon, and A Star Is Born actress Lady Gaga. She confirmed her participation in the film in her social media post by sharing the official Joker 2’s first teaser video.
Joker 2’s first teaser shows us a silhouette of Phoenix and Gaga dancing to the tune of Fred Astaire’s “Cheek to Cheek.” The silhouettes appear against the striking red background reminiscent of Joker’s red tuxedo in the first movie. A small heart tattoo is also visible in Gaga’s silhouette on her cheek, confirming that she’ll play the widely-known villainess.
joker 2’s first teaser, ends with both characters dancing together as a man laughing is heard in the background. The title card appears and the movie’s release date.

Zazie Beetz on Joker sequel becoming a musical
Joker 2‘s first teaser is giving us full-blown musical vibes. And the news that Joker 2 will be a musical surprised many fans worldwide. The sudden shift to the movie’s genre became a divisive topic, given that this is something completely unprecedented.
Singing on-screen is not something unfamiliar to both Phoenix and Gaga. Phoenix starred in 2005’s Walk the Line with Reese Witherspoon, where they performed their songs themselves. On the other hand, Gaga has an established music career and won an Oscar for Original Song with “Shallow” from A Star Is Born.
While they’ve performed well in these movies, making a musical out of famous comic-book characters is new to our mind’s eye. Thus, the reaction of fans and non-fans is entirely understandable. But a Joker alumna gives her thoughts about the matter.

Zazie Beetz played Arthur Fleck’s love interest in the first Joker film, talks about the sequel in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She claims that the movie becoming a musical “makes wonderful sense.”
“I actually think it makes wonderful sense. I wasn’t really surprised by that. Todd has always had a creative approach to the character. I love musicals, and I think of them as the characters are feeling and experiencing so much that they can only sing and dance about it, whether in sorrow or in joy.”
The Bullet Train actress continued by saying that “singing and dancing is quite a cathartic experience for .” And for someone like Arthur “who is feeling and experiencing so much,” the genre would be a great approach to dissect Arthur’s character more.
“I actually think it makes wonderful sense. I wasn’t really surprised by that. Todd has always had a creative approach to the character. I love musicals, and I think of them as the characters are feeling and experiencing so much that they can only sing and dance about it, whether in sorrow or in joy.”
Following what Beetz said, a musical movie about Arthur and how he’d embrace his persona as the Joker would make perfect sense. After all, deep emotions could only be conveyed through songs and creative performances. Director Todd Phillips will be stepping up his game in this movie, and we are ready for the surprises he has in store for us.
