John Wick is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s a simple, straight-to-the-point action series. You won’t be breaking your head with crazy moral dilemmas. And, the twists are fairly digestible. Now, a possible link between John Wick and Greek Mythology might change that.

In a recent article by Greek Reporter, this link comes to light. According to the film’s director, he was inspired by Greek mythology. That’s talking about the fourth installment in the series. But, how deep does that go?

With John Wick 5 already in the works, it’s a worthy look. The same goes for the Ballerina spin-off. Is there something we’re missing from the series? Let’s find out.

What’s the deal between John Wick and Greek mythology?

According to the director, several myths are at play here. That includes Odysseus and Heracles, the Hydra, the Minotaur, and more. And, it quickly becomes easy to see the influence.

Those myths revolve around resilience, fortitude, and more. If you’ve seen any John Wick film, you know where this is going.

The world-building, criminal organization, and lore ring several bells. But, you don’t have to go too deep to see that. From the statements, we can safely say we didn’t miss too much.

Does that mean John Wick 4 is a step away from other films?

Well, the simple answer is “no.” We can apply the same concepts to other films. After all, each one is a different Odyssey for the main character. So, you don’t have to worry about the series changing.

In fact, the fourth film doubles down on what we loved about the series. According to Reeves, it has a ton more action. So, I feel safe expecting another film that acts as a dopamine fix.

The tangible similarity between John Wick and Greek mythology

John wick and greek mythology similarities I’ll give you this hint before answering my own question.

With all that said, there is one similarity between John Wick and Greek mythology. Both of them have been hugely popular despite their age. The first John Wick film came out nine years ago. And, people still watch all installments and have fun.

That’s the same with Greek mythology. Rarely does a myth go unnoticed. They’ve inspired countless artists, from film to art and music. And, we can see something like that with John Wick. It has brought the gun-fu trope into the mainstream. You have Nobody, Atomic Blonde, Bullet Train, and more.

Needless to say, John Wick has created its own, niche myth. And, that’s commendable. It speaks volumes about the choreography, direction, and acting. It’s still a beacon of escapism in an increasingly politically-focused medium.
